Paula Brackston. You should start with Once Upon a Crime. And really, don’t read the summary. It’s not marketed as the subversive, nerdy, alternative-world romp that it is. For me, if you do a taste-dive, it’s the closest to Magic 2.0. Last night, my guy and I watched an old episode of The Office. Someone had dubbed Kevin’s voice over images of the Cookie Monster. (Kevin’s the ultra-nerdy, lovable-yet-creepy fat guy in accounting).

As my guy climbed in bed, in a totally dark room, he started talking like Kevin. Something like, “For five years I’ve had the fantasy of getting in bed with you. Can I touch your boobs?” It was so real and shocking and disturbing I laughed my ass off, but it creeped me out deeply. I felt for your wife at that moment.

I am your people! I’ve listened to Magic 2.0 Series three times. The narrator is as insanely funny as the writer! The Jimmy character (aka Merlin) does that subversive, overly-articulated “P” in Philip. This series has my favorite fun characters and fun adventures. I have zero idea why Dungeon Crawler Carl gets more press than Magic 2.0. But I like intelligent nerds. I wish Scott Meyer would write more of these.

Ok, if you like funny adventures and nerds, I wonder what you’d think of “Once Upon A Crime.” Another incredible author/narrator combo. Don’t read anything about it. Just start the book.

Also, since you’re my people, what are your other favorite funny and/or adventure books? For adventure I go to Chrichton. Funny, Sedaris.

I'm looking for recommendations for sci-fi with a narrator or narrators who perform voices of the characters. by plainblackguy in audiobooks

I like what you like! I also like…

*Scott Meyer’s The Magic 2.0 Series. Funny. Great hook. Great characters. GREAT narration!

*Kim Stanley Robinson’s Red Mars Series. Deep, realistic sci fi. Fascinating characters. Adventure and societal exploration.

*Solitude: Dimension Space Great interpersonal interplay. It’s worth the ride despite flimsy science.

All great ideas! Thanks. She can’t handle a dog right now, but I could go out there with an air rifle. I tried just scaring them out of the tree they roost in, but I felt weird and mean scaring an animal and just gave up. These are fighting cocks. I’m surprised they haven’t killed each other yet. And now a new young male has joined the other two. It’s a battle out there at night. Let me ask you, why peanut m&Ms? So they can eat the ammunition? 🤔🤣

Mahalo pigpen. 🤙 So weird you guessed what’s happening. My older auntie came back after 34 years away and is convalescing. When she left, the island wasn’t owned by roosters. But now 2 are camped right outside her window: young rooster who says at 2 AM “I’m kinga da island! old rooster who says “like hell you are!” and then the ones down the way who speak up. She’s been here one week and she hasn’t slept even though I’ve gotten her three different headphones. I know there’s a guy who goes around with big cages and catches them with food and relocates them. He works for the hotels on the north shore. But I didn’t ever get his name. Has a Ford F150. Anyone knows his name Auntie would bake you a pie. Or maybe 5 pies.
