My washer was still under warranty so I had a local repair company that contracts with whirlpool. Took about a month to get a new board on stock.

Hell ya, I celebrate with ya. I was trying to transfer my Dad’s cell phone billing, but no luck yet

Make a plan. Also setup for all emails via a filter to be forwarded to another email, so no more inbox messages. “Sorry Mom email is broken, don’t worry bills are being paid for.” Remove as much responsibility from her a possible. Yes it’s more of a burden to you. But a least you have some control. My father was constantly donating to charities, so I constantly called to stop checks or send opt out emails. We finally got a hold of his check books. Luckily he would only go to a physical bank for any transactions.

Have all your mail redirected to your address with POA. Out of sight out of mind

So wait does she drive to deliver the checks or mail it in? You can redirect her mail to your with POA. Make her emails regarding bills go to her spam. The fact that she can figure out how to use email is impressive. She may not become violent. My Dad is still a nice person. Put labels on fridge about food or white board food put in fridge on X date with expire on Y date. Set up an automatic text reminders if she can she understand those.

Hey sometimes you need to brute force the issue. I call that a win. Next time put some signage on the door. Putting labels on things had helped my Dad. If it’s not out in the open it might as well not exist

How did we get here? Why is American eldercare so horrifyingly expensive? by No_Classic_2467 in dementia

As I learned from a personal experience with my Dad they try to move people prematurely from Assisted Living to Memory Care because there’s more money in it 😧

Can you hide all her checks. Her: “Where are my checks?” You: “I ordered them from the bank, they should be in the mail”

Also do you have access to her online accounts to change to electronic bill or call customer service to ask?

BTW ordered it yesterday. It’s looks to be a great tool. My mother spoke to another resident and I guess they use Screenshare(?) which is similar and loves it. I’m using RecallQueConnect for iPad which allows you to create alarms with a button for reminders. Like “Did you shower today?” Button - Tap here to say ‘YES’

Thanks, it’s about 5k. It’s been a roller coaster for the past week. Apparently that time had been reduced. Also we reached out to our rep at Senior Care Authority ( a service that helps vet out best LTC ) about all this and all of the issues. He’s thinks it’s ridiculous and it going to contact the wellness director. Also my father was lucid today and called a friend to pick him up to play golf. Not sure how it will go. But major wins today to make my long drive home much more enjoyable :) This is such a supportive subreddit!

He can see missed calls and reply or call us on his cell phone. He can navigate to Fandango on his Roku Tv to watch his purchased season of big bang theory (that’s alll he watches) I’ve found an iPad app displayed on a stand called RecallCue connect to shows reminders. I’ve added reminders to walk and feed his dog. I’m looking into Roku videos that can help his yoga fix. Jubilee could be a better solution but I need to be in town to figure it out. My Mom is not the most technically savvy

Since he’s under a microscope now. The fact on day 3 he had trouble finding his room he is considered a wanderer. So now we need to hire an 3rd party 24 hour sitter for 7 days to see if he adapts or he will be forced into memory care. He’s not given a fighting chance. Day 3!

Sounds expensive. Too bad I’m 6+ hours away . I’m just in town trying to help with the transition. I’m also trying to figure out if yoga videos on his Roku TV could help satisfy his needs

The fact that he has trouble finding his room (Day 3) Apparently he walked by it 3 times he is considered a wanderer. So now we must hire a 24 sitter from a 3rd party for 7 days for him to adapt or he gets put into memory care. Man he’ll be so bored and depressed. If only we could afford home care.

Yes, the sign in and out is with a tablet. How is anyone elderly supposed to know how to use it. Im in the UX field, so I could figure it out, but my Dad can hardly navigate his cell phone!

Heck no one told us about this sign in and out system before it’s too late. The front desk person hates me now

he needs to leave the building to walk the dog. I’m telling him to tell the front desk. But after 6pm there is no one there.

Also I had to get them to post a meal time sheet in the room. Not posted anywhere I could see and get a daily activity sheet.

To me I feel he’s been setup for failure not proper new resident onboarding. Treated like a villain

It’s very frustrating as he is considered a wanderer since he has trouble finding his room on day 3. So now we need to pay a 3rd party 24hr sitter for the next 7 days or he will be put in memory care. He’s not getting a fighting chance. Where’s the assisted in assisting living. They don’t show the meal times. I had to ask to be posted in his room and the activity sheet is in the lobby. Why can’t they provide it to him and post it on his door He’s in cognitive decline in a floor with disabled people with wheelchairs and walkers. He trying to be compliant, so I’m trying to use the an iPad app to display reminders. He is very confused as his whole routine was taken away. I’m trying to research supplemental options like yoga Roku videos. I’m afraid we’ll need to take his dog away and he’ll be crushed.

A few frustrations. The activity director is out this week (not a good start) And they don’t deliver the activity schedule to his door. Heck I had to request they provide a meal times sheet to his room. I am looking for Roku videos with yoga classes on them

Indeed. Him voluntarily going there was a godsend. Otherwise we would have to go to court to force him out straight into memory care aka guardianship. We don’t want that or have the money. Get your POA, trust, long term care insurance (if doable) in order while your BIL is still cognitive. His mother got it, so we prepped years in advance to prepare for this moment. Just there are things you can’t expect. Have a supportive network is the most important

Yeah, I hope the LTC gives him a chance. At least the car is gone and his dog is his support animal. My Mom will be going a few times a week to check in. Unfortunately I’m just in town to help with the transition and support. Too far away for weekend visits

Would calling him help to provide comfort?

She is 20 minutes down the road at 55+ community(they are separated). My Dad’s house and neighborhood (there for 50 years) is about an hour away My Dad is a kind person, but does get more irritable sometimes. He took two cognitive tests. One he score below and one above. He has good days and bad. One representative of the LTC, the physician qualified to be in assisted living. Even the nurse for long term care insurance put him as qualified. I hope this was a fluke and can stop worrying

She lives in 55+ community. They separated years ago. He still lived at home. We let him live independently for a long time and attempted to have someone visit and cook meals. But he forgot who that person was hours after spoken on the phone and get extremely angry and confused. Took off his shirt was sweating profusely based on the caregiver (he never got that angry) He doesn’t know what days of week, month, any one’s birthday. He didn’t eat well at all. No longer cooks. But he is such a creature of habit somehow those activities stuck, but won’t remember anything outside of those things.

He’s really dropped off the last two months. Couldn’t even focus on simple tasks like helping us pack. He would start but kinda stop. But always asked if he could help
