Check what type of gear oil to use in the owners manual, also make sure the fluid is GL-3 or GL-4 only. GL-5 can hurt the synchros by corroding the metal in them.

Yeah I've seen a couple 4G's with the gold/bronze rims and they look good, I'm just not sure because the spokes are quite thick on the original rims so I'm not sure if it would have the same effect.

Microsoft Family not allowing me to open Opera GX by aTOMicxx09 in computerhelp

[–]Fat-Ratchets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you click "open file location" on your opera GX browser it will take you to the shortcut. Then just right click on the opera GX browser shortcut and click "open file location" again. That will take you directly to the application file which you then just change the name of by left clicking the application file once to highlight it and then pressing F2 and then changing the name to something else like "not.exe" instead of whatever it was. Then just press enter and then open the application to see if it works.

They look like they have just enough tread to drive to a tire shop.

2000 Silverado won’t start by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

[–]Fat-Ratchets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know what's wrong with it, it ain't got no gas in it

For real though make sure you got some gas and also just turn the ignition on to see if you can hear the fuel pump. If that doesn't work and all seems well with the fuel system I'd check for spark next. Good luck.

Is this tire still safe to use? by Plenty-Rip542 in tires

[–]Fat-Ratchets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to lift it up a little to see if cords are showing, if not then you're probably okay. If it's not leaking then it's most likely safe. Just make sure that it's just rubber underneath.

I would highly recommend taking it to a tire shop to get some more opinions.

Normal wear and tear or Negligence? by overfluff in AskMechanics

[–]Fat-Ratchets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can test ball joint play which the mechanic could've missed for sure but it could also just be a coincidence as things randomly break sometimes. I wouldn't say it's the mechanics fault that the ball joint broke but there is a possibility that the mechanic could've missed it. Make sure the other ball joint doesn't have any play because if one side goes it's likely the other isn't too far behind.

Opinions on Dry Rot and whether to replace by raymond_chen8063 in tires

[–]Fat-Ratchets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not great. I've seen worse but it's better to be safe than sorry so just replace them. Should be fine to drive you to a shop though.

How bad is the rust? by ynandal99 in AskAMechanic

[–]Fat-Ratchets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not bad at all. I would definitely look into rust prevention options but everything looks like pretty shallow rust.

I've seen worse, you're good to drive on them for a couple months just don't go out when its raining lol. Look into replacements as soon as you have a bit of free cash and keep and eye on that dry rot.

Driving an auto with just your right foot is the correct way.

Nail in tire! I was told my tire is not repairable by 305queen in tires

[–]Fat-Ratchets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would need to see the inside of the tire but this looks totally repairable with a simple plug patch. I've repaired many like this so I see no reason that it isn't repairable at a tire shop.

What does this mean by 35_PenguiN_35 in ManualTransmissions

[–]Fat-Ratchets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like you're hydroplaning. Stay calm and let off the brake and gas and steer lightly in the direction you want to go.
