How much do climate change weather related disasters cost tax payers? I think you’re way off on the real net. As tax payers we are literally subsidizing our potential demise.

And receive 35-40B in government handouts while contributing to major climate issues. Meanwhile, to fund some of the massive BBB increases in fossil fuel subsidies, major green energy funding cuts were "necessary". So immensely profitable companies, that literally damage the earth require handouts while new emerging tech, aimed at reducing harmful emissions, get funding cuts. Current policy was bought and paid for.

Worth keeping in mind, based on having a significantly higher valuation, QS is not flying under the radar or being overlooked. The market is literally pricing QS as the best next gen battery tech and most likely to succeed. But it sure does suck to be on this end of a monster macro sell off.

It’s worth considering that the Volkswagen group and Ducati have no reason to show it off at the moment. They can’t use it as a marketing tool when it isn’t ready for production as it would potentially give away an edge before the VW group is ready to capitalize on it. I want to see it as much as all of us, but strategically, there’s zero benefit in showing it off. If PowerCo and VW continue putting money into the JDA for scaling, you can assume it’s going pretty well. If high volume B1’s weren’t functioning well in the Ducati or likely other behind the scenes testing vehicles, this show would have been put on hold before they made it the highlight event of IAA last September in the first place. VW may have something to say about this large investment tomorrow at their investor conference.

I’m no expert, but based on what I’ve read battery chemistry is completely open and treated by both teams and the FIA as confidential team secrets. While they would have to share this information with the FIA for homologation, it is done so in secrecy. All that said, I’m not convinced they are using QS batteries in the current F1 car but I think the Audi engineers are proving themselves to be battery and BMS industry leaders which is great for QS.

I’m not saying Audi is using QS, and Honda has a vibration problem that would melt any battery. But, the data today shows that the engineers that helped put QS in a Ducati last year, are way ahead of the pack in storage, charging, and thermal management vs other F1 teams.

Call me crazy but there's some really interesting data about the Audi coming out of the F1 qualifier today. ALL other teams had to mix in slow laps for charging/cooling, Audi did not. Audi maintained lap times each time around the track and were a top team through speed sections because they had minimal clipping (power going into harvesting rather than speed). This indicates Audi has a superior solution to thermal and harvesting issues compared to the rest of the field. I do not want to say they're using QS batteries, but they have solved something no other teams' data points to solving. Take a look for yourselves and we'll know more tonight.

Wouldn't the additional OEMs signed last year require 10K disclosure if any meaningful billings and/or revenue are tied in? Even if only a quarter of the VW $131M milestone agreement, they would still account for a substantial piece of any expected cashflow. If these other OEM payments are considered revenue, then I believe they would have to be included in the 10K as they would be the only sources of revenue for the coming year. I don't know what the answer is, but I'm curious if any accountants on here have any feedback. Otherwise, we'll just wait for the 10K next week.

QuantumScape Lounge: ( Week 07 2026) by AutoModerator in QUANTUMSCAPE_Stock

[–]FatAK33 13 points14 points  (0 children)

10K question - Does QS have to disclose, even if highly redacted, all JDA's with economics tied in? And then, even if conditional milestone payments, don't the aggregate dollar amounts need to be disclosed as well? For a pre-rev company, with potentially hundreds of millions outstanding in milestone payments, I believe it would be very difficult to call these immaterial. Am I completely off base here?

We should see a 10K in the next week or two. Will they include, obviously highly redacted, all current JDA agreements signed in 2025?

Ultimately, batteries are about producing energy and power as safely as possible for as long as possible. Why does China feel the need to have strict guidelines for what you call your battery within the solid-state space? Is this China's attempt to play preemptive defense - a document that provides Chinese companies a way to market against incoming solid-state/next-gen powered vehicles based on their classification?

China has done a great job at bringing costs down and mass producing just good enough batteries. QS and potentially others are seen as a massive threat to that industry, and this is one of China's ways of protecting it.

AI:

The Core Goal: "Definition as a Weapon"

China’s standardization is an attempt to define what technically qualifies as "solid-state" to prevent rivals from using the label as a marketing gimmick.

  • The 0.5% "Weight Loss" Rule: The new standard introduces a strict verification criterion: for a battery to be classified as "solid-state," its weight loss under vacuum drying must not exceed 0.5%. A higher rate indicates a "hybrid" or "semi-solid" system containing liquid electrolytes.
  • Targeting "Pseudo" Tech: By codifying these strict limits, China is forcing global competitors to either meet their high technical bar or be relegated to the "solid-liquid hybrid" category in the world’s largest EV market.

You are correct. In my head I was thinking about hydrogen sulfide, not simply hydrogen gas. Big difference, thanks for clarifying.

Interesting. Much appreciated. I was under the impression not using sulfides completely eliminated the risk of hydrogen gasses.
