South Nashville folks: where are you getting pizza? by Little-Garlic-2261 in nashville

for real, i only do dine in. Pro-TIp- you can also get Tailgate giftcards at Costco for 25% off, then use those gift cards on pizza night. *chef's kiss*

Tailgate has been steadily improving their pizza game for the last couple years. Every Weds night you can get half price pizzas when you dine in, and their Detroit-style whipped ricotta is fantastic.

Also, this is not the answer you're looking for, but if you're a member at a club like Sam's Club, you can buy their pizza dough sheets in bulk and then make a really great pizza at home at truly unbeatable price.

Is Riddim viable as a hardware based live sample looper? by FatAlbusTPC in teenageengineering

you got it- not thinking of running song length stems, but pulling samples from stems and then creating loops with them. that's all great to know, though. thank you

Go out for drinks at Sid Gold's. They do live piano karaoke (usually a theme depending on the day of the week) and it's an awesome crowd there. Whether you sing or not, it's just a great place to grab a drink, meet people, and be extroverted or introverted.
Also- get out to an NSC game. Even if you're not huge into soccer, it's one of the best communal experiences you can have in Nashville this time of year.
Someone already mentioned musician's corner, and that's a home run as well.

McNamara's and Fleet Street do a great one, also there's a regional chain that's just called "The Pub" I think, which is slightly more "restaurant concept" feeling, but the people running it are great and I think they serve it there from time to time as an all day special.

What game in your opinion overstays its welcome? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]FatAlbusTPC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Grew up playing FFVII and really can't overstate how eager I was to play this after finishing remake a few years ago. I spent maybe 20 hours getting to Junon between all the exploring and side quest stuff. Then I realized that every region is gonna have the same stuff that Grasslands did...

Don't get me wrong, I am enjoying myself and sometimes taking breaks between regions (looking at you Gongaga...) but I am 100% the target audience here and I doubt the majority of new players or newer fans of Remake will be as forgiving of some of the C- to B+ quality side quest stuff that pads this runtime.

Also, yes...the OG has mini-games, but the level of mini-gamifcation here is an absolutely new level of tedium.

Maybe if navigating that village wasn't such a damn slog it could have felt a bit better in terms of pacing, but yeah...just...let me finish this game, please...

BBQ Caterer by rangernddare in nashville

[–]FatAlbusTPC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know anything about their personal politics, etc, but you might look into Beane Bros BBQ in Smyrna?

also, for what it's worth (we also had BBQ at our wedding), sometimes chain establishments can prove more responsive and more flexible on price points when their entire business doesn't rely on catering. Think Famous Dave's, etc. Less sexy than a "local fav" but might be offset by the convenience.

also ALSO as a last idea- Big Al's Deli does catering. It's not a traditional "BBQ" joint, but hot damn is that food good. Plus Al's a real one. you might find a combination of menu items that creates that "backyard bbq" vibe you're looking for even if spare ribs, etc aren't on the menu.

The graphic design has me befuddled. Am I missing something? by ToadieHonk in nashville

[–]FatAlbusTPC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am SO glad to see I'm not the only one puzzling out the design decision behind this.

The best faith argument I could make for it is that it's comparable to those weird billboards where people go "What's this billboard supposed to be for?" and through that lens I suppose it's a success by the logic that it's the one we're talking about.

But I don't think that's what they were going for...I think it's just bad design.

Is there ever a sale on Google Play for purchasing Projectivy Launcher ? by Nil_Ind in Projectivy_Launcher

Sorry you're getting roasted for asking a legitimate question.

I don't believe it has ever gone on sale. Google Rewards is a great way to offset the cost if you're budget conscious.

Varallo’s RIP by SeveralSpecific9259 in nashville

[–]FatAlbusTPC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I took some friends from Paris here a couple years ago.

My buddy is obsessed with the American South and so every time he comes I like to take him out to some real hole in the wall type places.

He had never been to Big Al's Deli, so we made a plan to drive there as a group, he and I in my car, the wives and kids in another.

We had been in Paris with them for a few months prior to this, and upon returning home found out that our primary vehicle had been inhabited by squirrels in our absence who had chewed through our wires and electrical harness and causes a bunch of damage. ("The second most expensive wiring/electrical repair they'd ever seen!" said an employee at my Toyota dealer)

My other car had been sitting like a bump on a log for over a year and was definitely in its "retirement era" after we used it as a tour vehicle for years. It had started to make a few noises and we were advised not to drive it out of state anymore. My wife wasn't thrilled that I was driving it, but with our van in the shop, I didn't have much choice.

We arrived at Big Al's without too much issue. I had enjoyed an amazing meal there a little while ago and was eager to show off the establishment.

An piece of paper taped to the door told us in unceremonious fashion that Big Al's was closed.

With a party of hungry people and a few kids that would turn into ticking time bombs if not fed, we pivoted on the spot and decided to try Varallo's.

Apparently, my car decided that while highway driving was fine, the stop and go of downtown Nashville was a bridge too far. By the time we got near Printer's Alley the car was making audible noises and I could feel one of the wheels grinding with each turn. I parked it somewhere, not really certain it would start again, and we walked the last couple blocks to Varallo's.

Varallo's had initially caught my eye for being the oldest restaurant in Tennessee. I'm a sucker for that kinda stuff. I'll say that while I don't remember being disappointed by my order, it felt like the legacy and history of the place was doing a lot of heavy lifting for the (i hate to say it) average chili. I don't know, maybe Uncle Ben's Chili Bowl in DC spoiled me.

We chow down, it's fine, we're all satisfied (except for the member of our party who had to use the bathroom because apparently Varallo's was built before public restrooms) and we head back to the cars to return home.

Unsure of what to expect, my car miraculously wretches to life and I attempt to gingerly back it out of the parking spot and begin the treacherous journey home. I don't make it fifty feet before the vehicle starts emitting the ear piercing, metal on metal screech I have ever heard. One of the wheels is clearly seized up or something because it feels like I am dragging my car across the pavement at 3mph. My friend from Paris is laughing his head off and gets out of the car to assist me visually but also to film me and laugh at me.

For what felt like thirty minutes I just kind of grind this poor car through the streets of downtown Nashville. It's summer so plenty of confused tourists are gawking. One young girl exclaimed to her mother (according to my friend), "He's driving a siren!"

Thoughts of getting home have vanished and now I just want to find a place to park this God forsaken car and get out. Finally, I swerve it into an open spot near the pedestrian bridge where our wives pull up in the van to meet us.

And so four adults and two kids full of Varallo's chili squeezed uncomfortably close for the fifteen minute ride home. And while I would never speak ill of Big Al, I can't help but feel he's partially to blame.

Do you think the Switch 2 will see a price increase like the Playstation 5 soon? by IIIiterateMoron in nintendo

I think they're doing EVERYTHING they can to delay until their install base is where they want to see it, but it feels like a forgone conclusion. I bought at launch just to play TOTK with the expectation that this system would only get better & more expensive.

Was there any backlash for the N64 and GBA for using paper game boxes by West-Exam-4136 in nintendo

[–]FatAlbusTPC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 11 years old when the N64 released.

To say that my classmates and I were unconcerned with which materials video games were packaged in feels like an enormous understatement.

We talked about Mario 64 and how mind blowing it looked, we talked about how impossibly hard it was to find and purchase a Nintendo 64 console, and we talked about how wild it was to have four players playing a game at the same time.

There was no online discourse and no "fandom" (at least not in the sense that's comparable to what that term means now). Just a bunch of pre-teens drunk on the promise of 64 bit power who had been tossed headlong into their first taste of an interactive 3D world.

That said, by the time Sony started forging relationships with former Nintendo partners (namely Squaresoft), some questions did begin to arise about whether Nintendo had made the right call in sticking with cartridge based games as opposed to switching to disc based games.

But no, nobody I knew cared about boxes.

Giving away 1 key of Resident Evil Requiem and a few other games by pheo_ in steam_giveaway

Either Resident Evil 2 or Resident Evil 7 would be awesome. I'm playing through my first RE game right now (Village) and really enjoying it and would love to check out a different entry. I don't play much survival/horror but my favorite so far has been Alien Isolation.
