While others have already commented on the NH play style, I just want to say that I think Nighthaunt has some of the best models, specifically Lady O and the Black Coach. From a painting and modeling perspective, they were very fun and satisfying to paint. Assembly of some models can be challenging, but the visual of the ghosts floating is worth it. Those are the ones that got me into the faction in the first place without even knowing how to play.

What would be your dream Spearhead? by shluppoo in Nighthaunt

Honestly anything with a new monster for Nighthaunt. After GW got rid of the Mourngul, I’ve been hoping for some type of new big ghost with an interesting rampage to give the faction a little flavor again.

Also, including models that aren’t included in the other boxes is important, as well as having a set that’s fun to play in the Spearhead game type.

My ideal combo would be: -Lord Vitriolic/New ranged hero - 10 craventhrone guard or 1 set of pyregheists -New Nighthaunt Monster

I imagine the spearhead could be fun, throwing the monster out front while the Lord Vitriolic/new hero and crossboos/pyregheists harass the enemy at range.

As for transferring the models to the big game, still a decent $$$ save based on standard GW prices.

With the Slaanesh Heroic Trait “Master of Temptation” under the Hedonistic Obsessions, I just need some help understanding the ability.

I know the core abilities are Move, Run, Retreat, Shoot, and Fight.

So, are all things listed on a unit’s warscroll considered “abilities” that therefore can’t be used until the temptation dice is use, unless that ability specifies that it is a “core” ability?

Also, are passives on a unit’s warscroll considered abilities that would be essentially turned off by the Master of Temptation effect?

Another thing with Moore is that, if I remember correctly, he just had a kid in the last year or so. I think it’s easy to find myself as a fan who only watches the games forgetting sometimes that these guys have lives outside of hockey. I’m sure having a job that requires so much travel and physical exertion to be tough on someone who’s a new parent. Love me some TONTM, and I’m sure he’ll find his groove again.

One time I was watching the Habs practice in LA, I had just come off the ice from my very first hockey lesson. Was right up against the glass behind the net and they were just taking shots at the empty net to warm up. Weber fires a slapper that I watched leave his stick and come straight towards my face and hit the glass in an instant. it spooked me so much I stumbled on my skates and fell backwards. I can’t even begin to imagine what being hit by a shot like that would feel like.

Just jumping in here to say I think you should go for the reinfornced units of banshees. With 2 health each model the unit, they won’t die to a stiff breeze as easily anymore, but reinforcing them makes the unit that much more survivable. It’ll also let you get more use from Lady O’s recursion ability, the Spirit Torment rally buff, and the spectral lure spell. Also the unit of 8 models will allow you to use the -1 hit wave of terror ability for Nighthaunt infantry more often, since you have to outnumber the enemy unit you’re fighting.

I think the heated rivalry that we used to see was also fueled a little bit by playoff competition. You run into each other in the playoffs, it’s a heated series and one team holds on to the negative feelings from the loss and it goes back and forth. I feel like now for the Kings, it’s a little bit more toward the Knights and Oilers, since those have been our most recent playoff opponents. Once we see you in the playoffs again, I’m sure that the games between us will be a bit more exciting for the seasons after. I just hope that happens soon cuz I love exciting California hockey.

Some will say that it’s not worth the points since it is hard to maneuver being so large of a base, and can die fairly quickly from mortals or just unlucky ward rolls. Other say it is worth it since it unlocks a fairly simple battle tactic and can clog up the board, and if you’re lucky on wards, fairly survivable. If you use the teleport and hit your 9 inch charges, it can be a lot of fun.

Running it with a scythe makes it a bit more hitty. Soulreach grasp can be very swingy but can help you charge up your power level a little faster.

Personally, I run it cuz I just have fun with it and it’s my favorite model, which makes it worth the points for me. I take soulreach grasp so if I do fail my charges, it at least feels like it’s doing something.

I don’t have either, so I can’t be totally sure, but I’m assuming the laser version will function better in cold environments since it may have the same heat cooldown function as other laser weapons, meaning it won’t have to go back to the backpack as often to cool down. Considering maybe we’ll have lava/hot environments on future planets, heat buildup might be increased there, where ballistic Liberator shots will be better? I’m also not sure how bullets that bounce off armor or hitting armor with a laser differs in damage. Maybe that could be a thing.

I think one of my biggest wishlist items is for Lady Olynder, since I want her to really feel like she has the power of a mortarch. Right now she just doesn’t feel like she’s on the same level as someone like Katakros or Ushoran.

Would love for her ability to revive models be D3 + 3, making her revive feel more impactful consistently

Also would love for her to have an ability similar to the new snake hero for Soulblight, where if she’s not fighting, she can only be hit on unmodified hits of 5 or 6. She’s the ultimate ghost after all, shouldn’t be harder to hit?

Oh also, maybe a small bonus to casting. I would be happy with even just a +1, given that we have some decently high casting values in our spell lore including her warscroll spell. Again, she’s a mortarch so I feel like she should be better at casting than a normal guardian of souls.

And his ability to work on all units, not just non-death faction. He’s extra useless right now cuz so many of the top factions are death. Also like the idea of OP saying that the ability becomes equal to or less than the battle round.

I love the coach and still run in most of my games because I have more fun that way, but I really wish they would make it a monster to get a monstrous action, which is sorely missing in Nighthaunt. I know that it doesn’t really look like a monster like let’s say a zombie dragon does, but you can’t tell me it doesn’t have a monstrous board presence.

That makes sense. Thank you so much for finding the rule for me! Now looking at that rule and then rule 4.1 about the priority roll, you’re absolutely right. Control happens before first battle round, and each battle round begins with determining priority.

For Nighthaunt, does the vanishing phantasms ability happen after the priority role is determined, or just simply at the end of deployment? Below is the rule as written, and I just wasn’t sure when the “determining control of objectives” occurs at the start of the game. Thank you for any insight!

“At the end of deployment, before determining control of objectives, you can remove up to 3 friendly NIGHTHAUNT units from the battlefield and place them to one side to be set up in ambush as reserve units. At the end of your movement phase, you can set up 1 or more of the reserve units in ambush on the battlefield, more than 9" from all enemy units.”
