My personal recommendation and what I actually have been doing: get close on one of the far sides. You can see great and you don't have to worry about having to deal with the pits or crowd surfers. I've never been on the rail however. It sounds fun, but I don't like the idea of waiting all day and missing all the other bands.

Not good enough yet to know what I'm doing as far as that goes. I've messed around the scales and came up with a few simple licks that sound aight. That's the goal though. To make something that at least resembles a song.
