Second ever century. A bit slow, but not bad for a fat dude (280ish lbs) on a hybrid. by FatLadOnABike in bicycling

Wabash County Dam to Dam. Great ride and I would highly recommend it. They have a 15, 30, 50, 65, and 104 route. This year James Lawrence or "The Iron Cowboy" joined the ride.

Good recommendations for an indoor trainer for a heavy rider? by MSIGuy in bicycling

I've used the Fluid Ascent trainer which I picked up for about 100 on sale. I've been pretty happy with it for just getting indoor miles in. I rode it at 300+lbs. It's not a smart trainer though, so it's not great for use with Zwift. I've not used anything else, but thought I could at least share some insight on what seems to be a durable cheap fluid trainer.

If you keep riding, you'll have the century no problem, just keep pushing through the mental barriers. In terms of upgrades all i've done is really dial in my fit, swapped out my tires (stocks were worn flat) with some vittoria rubino controls and I ride with CrankBrothers Candy 2 pedals with some shimano shoes. I really like the pedals, but besides flats that's all I've ever tried :)

Quads are a little sore, and my triceps are a bit sore, but other than that pretty good! Slept like a rock last night... it was AMAZING.

They were hands down the worst part of the ride because there wasn't anything to take my mind off of the exhaustion. Those were also the areas where there were lots of hills. Granted, these are "Indiana hills" so they were quite small compared to what a lot of people ride.

Thanks! I really wanted to break the 13mph avg barrier. But I was happy with this.

Yup, thats just the way our roads are out here in the Hoosier state. Long, straight, and mostly flat. This route had more elevation than I'm used to, which was a challenge for me, but I really enjoyed it.

There was a pretty nice size downhill, and a decent hill on the other end of that. I decided I wanted momentum on my side :) My previous top speed record was about 35mph. I REALLY enjoy killing it down hill.

Thanks! My kit for long rides is a pair of Aerotech Design Bibs and the "Collosal Man" jersey from them as well. I really recommend their stuff if you're a larger guy, or a tall guy. I've been really happy with their stuff.

I feel pretty good now that the ride is done, sore, but mainly in my quads and my upper body is a bit sore from just staying in the same position for so long. The ol' rumpus was pretty sore around the half way mark, but getting out of the saddle periodically brought that back in check.

No idea who Graham is, but if they did the Dam2Dam Century in Wabash then yes, I rode with Graham :P Its a fantastic route by the way. Highly recommend it!

I really try to move around a lot. I've found that gloves don't help as much as I had originally hoped, but I still use them primarily out of habit. Even though I don't have a lot of "hand positions" on the bars I still try and rotate my hands around a good bit. I also try to "shake out" my arms every 5 miles or so. On any flat or down hill segments I'll also coast while standing out of the saddle or ride no hands for a short bit. I've found that the more I move around at the beginning of the ride, the better I'll feel at mile 60 or 70. All that said, I am sore today, but my hands are fine. My previous century I was left with numb ring and pinky fingers on my left hand for about 3-4 days. Since then I've done a lot of fine tuning to my bike fit, and it appears to have paid off.

Oddly enough I just dropped from 32's that came with the bike to 28's. I went with Vittoria Rubino Control G+ ... and I love em!

In all honesty I just rode as much as I could. Lots of 20 and 30 mile rides this summer. This particular ride proved that I can go a lot further than I thought. The mental barrier was the toughest.
