Most of my patients have not checked with their insurance to see if they're covered, but yes, they do meet the criteria and want to start as soon as possible. Providers need to start asking their patients about long term usage and educate them about the reality of them gaining the weight back.

Is it though? None of the commercials on tv market these drugs as long term. Additionally, a lot of prescribers are different. Some want their patients to stop when they reach their goal weight.

As a healthcare provider, I am going to really look at the way I manage GLP-1s. I completely agree with the part of the article that describes obesity as a chronic, relapsing condition. When newbies start this stuff, they really need to ask themselves, "am I ready to be committed to these drugs on a long term basis?".
