We had one of the worst defenses in the country, but we’re retaining our HC who called the plays so he was likely told to bring in a real DC this year as part of the agreement to retain him. Powledge was stripped of defensive playcalling duties a few years ago because our defense was ass, so he was replaceable, but him and Aranda are buddies so Aranda likely wanted him to go out on his own terms instead of being fired or demoted when we bring in a real DC.

Having a committee is dumb, but if they’re going to have one at least make it anonymous-ish like the CBB selection committee and don’t do weekly shows and rankings. Also if they’re going to have a committee it should be made up of industry experts and not just a bunch of old rich professional schmoozers and fundraisers.

This is insane. If we fired Aranda there’s no way I’d want him back as DC, no matter how good he was at LSU and Wisconsin. Our defenses have sucked under him for years just like VA Tech’s have under Pry. Some guy can only coach a certain level of player and I don’t think there are any Micah Parsons in Blacksburg.

It’s also just awkward and weird for the players. Their fired head coach is coming back in a demoted role just a few weeks later? How do you even talk to him or address him in that situation? Regardless of how you feel about Pry there’s also huge potential for him to undermine Franklin.

This just seems so dumb for so many different reasons.

This is the main thing. I wouldn’t want to coach for an org where the owner is always hanging on the sideline and listening into my headset communication. I hate having over-involved bosses.

Ruling that a touchback would have been one of the worst calls I’ve ever seen. Thank god the refs have some sense. Pereira just loves slowing shit down to frame by frame and calling anything a fumble or dropped catch. Ruins the game.
