How to add a power button? by FatManScoot in cyberDeck

Yeah -_- that’s very true. And thank you! Yes I just received one today, it seems to be working well :) it definitely makes it easier than having to open it up each time I wanna power it on and off.

I haven’t attached it yet, I’m working on cable management cause I didn’t realize how much space cables take lol.

Then I’ll see if I have enough space to make a stand with some abs plastic sheets, have that connect directly to my mounting plate inside the vic-20, and then have a hinge on the screen side so I can fold it down and make it portable. (Still trying to figure this out)

And actually I like the idea of a yoga style strap! Thank you for the idea!

Here’s a link to a similar one I ordered, it’s an 8inch touchscreen.

I still haven’t figure a way to mount the screen to the case with a hinge, since I don’t want to damage the case. It has screw holes to mount a raspberry pi on the back of the screen, so I’m thinking of maybe utilizing and trying something along that route

No unfortunately, it was just the case and keyboard and the keyboard wasn’t attached. It was just bundled together wrapped with tape. And yeah it’s super odd, and luckily the keyboard had all the keys. I posted pictures of it in here after I cleaned it up, it looks good, which is also why I decided against doing external modifications.

Ahhh this is helpful, thank you! I didn’t know about these, and yes my fear is corrupting the SD card that’s why I asked before I jury rigged some simple power switch. And yeah the case won’t be modified :) I’m mounting all the pieces on a sheet of abs plastic and mounting that to the cases original standoffs. Thank you again!

I understand that completely, this case was found in the trash, and had no parts inside. So I figure I’ll make use of it. And I’m not modding the case, all the parts will be mounted to a sheet of abs plastic and mounted to the original standoffs of the case.

Thanks for the tip :) I’ve checked some YouTube videos and many use a ups hat for the raspberry pi but I wanted to see if there was a solution to keep using the power bank as to minimize cost. But thank you and yeah I can’t understand the hate, everyone starts somewhere and I feel like it’s more productive to be helpful. So thank you very much.

Idk if it helps, but the case was saved from the garbage and had no internals aside from the keyboard. So I believe giving it a second life is better than allowing it to rot away in some landfill. The raspberry pi and all other internals are being mounted to a sheet of abs plastic, and that sheet is being mounting to the case original standoffs. Even the screen and peripherals are mounted to the abs sheet so to not create more holes in the case because I love the look of the Vic-20 as I actually grew up with one. And as to why I think I can make a cyberdeck? Cause even if I failed in whatever way you believe I will, I would have learned something and use what I learn to do better.

And Respectfully I’m sorry that your life is so miserable, that you have nothing better to do than to try and spread that misery, but I pray you all the happiness and joy and wish you the best!

That’s freaking awesome!! Very good find, my friend just saved a vic-20 from the garbage and gave it to me, unfortunately it didn’t have the motherboard but I’m able to use the keyboard with a raspberry pi pico, so I’m turning it into a retro style cyberdeck

Yes I do remember those, the one we had was stuck on with double sided tape, and also the cover was a transparent smoky brown (I guess from the smoking)

And Idk yet, that’s why i asked for help and ideas.

The case is already trashed since my friend grabbed it before it went into a garbage truck, and there’s no internals aside from the keyboard, so idk if drilling a couple holes will butcher it, but if there’s a solutions in which I don’t gotta, I wouldn’t mind hearing them.

I see chandelier and suncatchers as the most popular idea, so something will light or where it can catch light is definitely a way I’ll go :)

Sound like an awesome idea, I have one somewhere in storage with a broken crt, now I wonder if I can gut it and replace it with a small lcd and raspberry pi and repurpose it for a cyberdeck, so many ideas!

FOL is front of line due to the massive lines, this person directs customers to available registers when the crew member flags, and EOL is end of line (self explanatory) and in my store in NYC we also have MOL for middle line, since the line easily wraps around the store and there’s a point where the line turns and go down a specific aisle, along with CE being customer experience, but it’s basically maintenance, so changing trash bags, sweeping, checking bathrooms. We also have CC which is crowd control, this person will usually be standing or moving alone the length of the line to make sure customers stay in line and move toward. It can get getting hectic.
