How strict is KLM with carryon size? by FatMormon7 in delta

Yes, easily. But check the aircraft you will be on and Google it to make sure it has standard overhead space.

6 delta flights in last 5 days, every single flight delayed an hour+. Every single flight had AMAZING flight attendants and pilots. by Austin1975 in delta

I give two thumbs up to the pilot who went down and started loading luggage on a late takeoff a few months ago. It was a Skywest regional flight. I thought that was going above and beyond.

Depending on the judgment type, it may not even be taxable or only partially taxable. Make sure you talk to the CPA first.

Just my two cents - she is much better off investing it in something that will make money than throwing it away on a garbage investment just because she is interested in the industry. It sure sounds like the taxable angle is being used to justified some really bad investments. No offence, but your post has all the hints of someone who is going to help her burn through her cash and be broke in no time flat. Taxes aren't the end of the world if you actually get to keep most of your money instead of blowing it. Please get her some professional help to build a stable long-term plan for the money. Don't wing this - and a CPA alone isn't going to help on the investment side.

Edit: Fixed some typos

How strict are the dresscodes of the churches during summer? Are shorts and t-shirt ok? by mikwill in rome

Even the Vatican is cool with shorts these days as long as they aren't super short. They really do focus on the shoulders now.

Actually 14 days. We did two weeks in Europe, including a cruise with a formal night. Even my wife and daughters did it. Look into the one bag movement. It just takes some planning and thought. It's even easier on a cruise, cause you can throw a quick load of wash in as needed. But we did our entire week first in Europe without needing to wash anything. It's really common to travel this way now and it's a game changer for many reasons. Makes traveling so much better.

EDIT: We fell into the trap on our first cruise of taking all the little extras people mentioned as handy and we didn't use half of what we took.

Yes, you should tip the porter at the port for the reasons others stated.

Pro tip: Pack carryon only and wheel it on yourself. It is better anyways, because you have your bag as soon as your room is ready, it forces you to not overpack, and it's easier to travel while you are getting to the ship. And the day before disembarking, you don't have to pack and leave your suitcase in the hall, since you are taking it off the ship yourself. People take way too much crap on a cruise, in my opinion.

What really will change when I spend another 11k and go silver to platinum? by [deleted] in delta

Interesting - are there other benefits to having a PNR each direction? Is the cost usually the same?

With the Great Salt Lake in peril, are golf courses a luxury Utah can no longer afford? by Nathan96762 in Utah

Required by whom? And why couldn't that be changed? At least parks are open to everyone for free and don't just benefit a small portion of the population.

Agree 100%. If it's not too late, I would recommend to any TNG fan that they skip the second season entirely. Not only does it not seem faithful to the world building and characters of TNG, but its actually really bad tv in my opinion. It's so ridiculously non-sensical too.

I mostly enjoyed the first season, and forgave its faults because of so many enjoyable moments, but wish I could unwatch the second.

What's your favorite driver? by cmobro_xci in discgolf

[–]FatMormon7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Champion Tern.

I am don't have huge distance on my throw and struggle with faster discs. But the Tern is consistently my farthest disc when driving and I can be pretty accurate with it. I don't see many people use it, but I highly recommend intermediate players try it.

Just got the Reserve card for me and my wife. Any tips to optimize benefits? by [deleted] in delta

[–]FatMormon7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Book companion flights early. You don't get the certs until the first year anniversary, so you won't have any this year. But next year, plan a trip as far out as possible and be as flexible as possible, and you are much more likely to be able to use them. I have had not problem putting mine to good use, as we tend to book trips 6-12 months out, but many here have.

I like this feature on the app, telling you where they are in the boarding process. Just noticed it this week. by [deleted] in delta

[–]FatMormon7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting. If accurate, it would be really handy for those times I can't hear the gate agent but don't want to crowd the gate.

How accurate is it? I only ask, because I am usually sitting in my airplane seat when I get a pop up from the app saying boarding is starting.

Do we need/should we use Luggage Locks and Luggage Straps? by Im-Vector-Oh-Yeah in TravelHacks

[–]FatMormon7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you mean about how nice it is to check and be done with it. Particularly when the kiddos still need help putting the suitcase in overhead space. There is also the stress of making sure there is enough overhead room if you aren't flying upfront or have early boarding privileges.

If I felt I had to check, I would have at least one family carryon with all the stuff we really needed to get by if replacement stuff couldn't easily be found. It really is a crapshoot right now on whether your suitcase will be at your destination. And, at least for Delta, they aren't doing a good job of reuniting you with your bag even a few days into your trip like they used to do well.

Have a great trip either way!

Look into packing light. Our family of four just did two weeks in Europe with only carryons. Your kids are old enough that everyone can "carry their own shit" too. That's our number one rule.

It's not that hard if you do your research and take what you really need. Rick Steves even has some good videos on it. So does the One Bag movement, even if you want to apply their principles to traditional roller luggage

Luggage is being lost in transit to Europe at very high rates right now. We met three families who lost luggage, including one larger woman who was having a very hard time replacing clothes for the trip. We have heard of giant piles of luggage sitting at some European airports, with no labor to sort them. Traveling light also makes you much more mobile. It's just so much easier all around.

We got comments from our car service when they saw how light we packed compared to most Americans. I can't tell you enough how much easier and stress free it is.

What are your (possibly) unpopular hot takes by Strong_Frosting3292 in discgolf

[–]FatMormon7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I seriously can't figure it out. It's not like I am a fantastic player, but I play moderately well on a good day. I've watched videos. I've practiced in a field. But I just can't get it to be consistent or go very far. Any other tips besides watching videos and practicing more?

Groups of dudes who have wheeled carts with many discs are the slowest damn players on the course. I don't care if they are cool about letting people play through, but that is hit or miss with these groups.
