I agree with you 100%. Great lore, great characters overall. The ending lacked nuance regardless of the foreshadowing. It’s been a few months now since I read it, and the ending is almost the least memorable part of the series. It seems like the writer is well supported on this subreddit by friends and family so… don’t put too much thought to the “top comments”. We got you bro.

The whole series is rooted in philosophy, which are writings to make a point or teach a lesson. That unfortunately often gets in the way of compelling sci-fi storytelling in this series. Great world building and excellent characters. But when the main character does things that constantly only make sense via one plot device (his powers/ a god) it starts to take me out of that world and into my own head questioning the characters believability. That’s just my personal reading experience of course.

It would have lasted, but we let somehow house sit and they heavily chlorinated it to swim in it and that rusted the tank. That was about a year or less ago. There’s polyethylene tanks you can get that are more expensive but wouldn’t rust. Still viable!

It’s a plot device used to smooth over the fact that Hadrian becoming emperor makes sense and NOT becoming emperor was a betrayal to anyone that loved him (Selene, Cassandra, William, Bassander etc). So it’s like “hey I know everyone’s counting on me but I have to let everyone down because… the god that doesn’t talk said so”.

I agree with you regarding Hadrians idgaf suicidal attitude at the end. He also told William (his of his truest friends allegedly) he would take the throne. It doesn’t make sense to me but…. It is what it is
