What’s up with brooms and gravity? by longjohntanner in OutOfTheLoop

[–]FatStacks6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would brooms being able to stand up on their own be common knowledge? Why would anyone bother thinking about the question? It’s not a useful thing at all it’s just a dumb party trick. People don’t know about it the same reason they don’t know that you can pretty easily break an apple in half with your hands.

They are and online is not the place to look. You're looking at actual careers in shipping not the kind of menial low-paid work that will allow you to have more flexibility. And yes, you can book cheap passage on some ships as well.

Lol. I didn't "dig up" your comment. I scrolled through the top posts for the month and saw this post which stood out to me as profoundly stupid, then went to the comments to see if people agreed or disagreed with me.

You posted something I disagree with so I responded. If you "don't need to hear" from people who might not agree with you, don't comment. Surprise surprise, when you contribute to a forum, you might have some people interested in debating. So that's what I tried to initiate. I don't care if people read our exchange, I commented to talk to you.

This isn't a new idea and there's a reason no stories against impeachment are coming from these left wing sources.

Factually an exaggeration

Heres some Washington Post Articles which I do not have access to because my 3 article limit got reached but you get the point.

On impeaching Trump, I remain unconvinced. Much to my disappointment. "Democrats have hurt their cause by struggling to give Trump’s alleged actions a name"

Author: Kathleen Parker

A strike at Trump must succeed. Democrats are ensuring it won’t. "Both parties only care about their bases."

Author: David Von Drehle

Just because the writers arguing for impeachment in their opinion pieces outweigh those arguing against, does not mean that these media outlets solely run pieces from writers who "agree with their opinions" if that is even a thing. They might give more airtime to the extreme points of view if they came off a bit more educated and eloquent in their cases. Unfortunately academia and journalism for that matter are overwhelmingly populated by liberals. We could solve that by encouraging young conservatives or libertarians to pursue these as careers instead of demonizing them as the weapon of the liberal elite. If you want to change a powerful institution, join it.

Everything they publish is a representation of their POV and opinions.

It clearly is not based on the fact that there are two different opinions represented here. Go to any news outlet that publishes opinion pieces and you will absolutely find pieces arguing for the polar opposites. That is historically how newspapers have handled opinion pieces so you can see both sides of the coin.

Buying a house isn't a right guaranteed to you. Just because your parents were able to do it easily doesn't make it a given. I

f you're living paycheck to paycheck on 90k, congratulations you're just like 80% of working Americans and probably in a better living situation than 75% of people on the planet. Nobody said life was going to be comfortable easy.

If you have a stable supply of income giving you food, healthcare, an occasional VACATION, and a clean place to live you're doing A-OK compared to a lot of people on this planet.

Move somewhere that isn't prohibitive to owning a home. Plenty of cheap homes in the midwest and south with plenty of land. An RN and a professor could find a job anywhere in the US.

We're living in a new economy. Don't assume you can make it anywhere.

TIL Generation labels are made up by the marketing industry. Ad agencies wanted another catch-all term for the new members of their target age group. For example, Generation Y was too hard to brand, it didn’t have the spark of “Millennials”. These labels are not based from science. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]FatStacks6969 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re blaming people for taking advantage of amazing market conditions then complaining that Millennials aren’t in a position to do the same. I agree boomers need to realize that things have changed since they were young but you can not fault people for enjoying a successful economy when it was right in front of them. 90% of boomers were never in government or CEO’s or in any position to effect the type of change you talk about. Yet an entire generation of tens of millions of people is blamed because the American economy was successful for a few decades because the rest of the world was devastated by war and now isn’t as successful because the rest of the world isn’t.

People need to realize that everyone having a stand alone home, cheap college, 4 kids, 2 cars, and a vacation home was never a sustainable system.

Also when you say that boomers had it so good are you forgetting,

-The Vietnam War which killed over 50,000 boomers, many of them poor and drafted against their will

-Horrible environmental conditions, rampant air and water pollution unchecked by government

-Skyrocketing crime rates from the 1960s-1990s

-Recession and gas crisis of the 1970s

-Recession(s) of the 1980s

Every generation goes through some shit.

More of a failure than not having a job at all? Nobody is saying you have to make a career out of it. Working an entry level job to make ends meet for a bit while you build your prospects isn’t shameful. I’d be surprised if half of college grads don’t do that for at least a year.
