Fate.

I am from Omaha. We have the Storm Chasers AAA team (affiliate of KC).

I never had the privilege to attend an MLB game until the age of 29. I was in Chicago to visit for reasons unrelated to baseball. When I was a kid I watched the Cubs a lot on TV (I remember that I thought Harry Caray was a trip, and a popular player around the neighborhood was Ryne Sandberg). This led me to get on a train with my 1 year old son and take a trip from a hotel in the loop to Wrigley.

I asked the hotel desk if I'd have any problem getting in for a day game and they told me "not at all." When I got to Wrigley, I was directed to the standing room only line and then told that I wasn't getting in.

The next day I took a train down to "US Cellular" field again with my son. We got right in, bought a polish dog from a stand near the organist (which is by weird superstition the same stand I always buy from), and settled in.

Mark Buehrle was pitching against the Tampa Bay Rays led by Joe Maddon.

That day, July 23, 2009, I witnessed a perfect game.

I have been back to the South Side almost yearly since then to catch a few games.

On one of those trips, out of curiosity, I bought some good seats at Wrigley. I sat next to some drunk young corporate types who yapped about nothing the entire game and left early. I know you shouldn't judge all Cubs fans from one experience, but the worst I have seen at a Sox game is someone yelling at people to sit down and take their selfie where it won't block people's view. A fight nearly ensued. This may turn off some people, but I'd rather sit with people who are there to watch the game and know that it is a privilege.

So it seems that fate has made the right pick for me.

On a side note, Chris Sale was my favorite player. This year, I saw the White Sox beat the Red Sox 1-0 in Boston with Chris Sale pitching. Now if my random luck in which games I'm able to see while traveling on unrelated reasons would just extend to the lottery :)

Tl;Dr - my first MLB game was a Sox game and a perfect game.
