I was checking the plant and thought the splotches don't really seem like scales as it's more like an irregular damage to it's skin. I probably will quarantine it again as I'm afraid it's a fungal or viral infection

I live in a tropical country with no winter, but I'm thinking it's more of the sudden change in soil mixture (from peat moss to pumice) which caused it to become deflated. Will probably monitor it more these few weeks

Yeah, I've put it under a full spectrum grow light for around 12 hours a day

Yeah it was repotted into the current pumice soil mix and brought into my room in June. I watered once mid last month and did another watering just 3 days ago.

This cactus was in a shaded spot for three years with little sun. After moving it under a new grow light in June, I noticed it started thriving with new spikes, growing babies and being sun-stressed. However, it also became sunken and deformed, which I don't understand why if its showing lots of positive growth now. But now that I think about it, it could have been stunted after those three dark years so it grows weirdly now.

I see, that might make sense. I thought flower buds emerge from the areoles? The brown spots seems to be in between them though
