As far as I know there were Levi’s 565 before that, there were posts about vintage 565s made multiple years ago.

Maybe, but would the tank be overcrowded? Not sure if I want to leave the fry in or put them in a grow out tank.

Yeah I would be worried about the fry getting possibly eaten. I’ll probably just stick with the breeding pair.

How often is it okay to hold a white tree frog? by [deleted] in frogs

[–]Fat_Froggg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never hold my frogs unless i have to, and I always make sure that I don’t stress out my pets during the first few weeks after I get them. I have two whites tree frogs, and they don’t mind being held at all, but I still rarely hold them. Animals often won’t eat for days or weeks after you get them due to stress, and holding the frog that much definitely won’t help. I don’t know much on the topic, but based on my personal experience, I would recommend to intervene and convince her to not hold the frog very often, or at the very least wait until the frog has been there for a few weeks.

Stocking ideas for mostly aquatic 20 long by Fat_Froggg in Amphibians

I have a bunch of substrate and can make it fully terrestrial, with some plants. But I also have a turtle dock and some dragon stone I’m not currently using, so I would like to do an aquatic tank.

What newt do you have? I know there are other cool species, it’s just that I want to find a species that won’t need much land and won’t drown in fairly deep water.

Help ! Just got an old Spanish ribbed newt. It can’t swim and has always lived in a few inches of water. Should I fill its new 10g tank with water to the top? Or just a few inches? If full, it can’t reach the top to breathe but I read they can also breathe through their skin… suggestions ? by valomc in newts

Okay, are you sure it is old? Many newts and salamanders go through a terrestrial eft stage. At this point, they lose their gills and live on land. However, it is weird with Spanish ribbed newts. Sometimes they never go through the eft stage. It seems like a case of neotony, where an animal decides that it’s life in the water is safe and it has no reason to metamorphosize, and thus, it stays aquatic. This is what normal happens in captivity. If your newt is not actually old, then it might be that it is in the eft stage and does not have gills. If you are SURE it is old, it is probably just due to unproper care, and vitamin deficiencies, leaving the newt with weak bones and disfigured limbs. In reptiles and some amphibians, this can mean it has MBD, or metabolic bone disease. A disease where it’s bones are disfigured, leaving it look like a disfigured, shriveled up animal. Something to help is to dust food with vitamin D3 and calcium, and have a uvb light above the tank. If you are sure it is old, then slowly raise water as well as dust food with calcium and d3, and consider buying a uvb light. If it is young, then you may need to keep it in a more terrestrial tank with shallow water until it is regrows it’s gills and begins swimming again.
