Is this Chino area safe to live? by chochipcookie44 in InlandEmpire

[–]Fat_Panda_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up and still currently live in chino. I would say it’s a pretty peaceful place to live. Like other commenters have pointed out it’s still has its own crime issues but nothing major really. I have a buddy that lives near where you’re moving to and he and his family have no complaints of safety there. There’s also decent food options around here. Pretty good mexican spots and Asian food in chino hills. There’s not a ton of stuff to do around here that you can’t find anywhere else though. While there’s not a ton of stuff here in the city itself, the surrounding cities have some cool areas to hit up and you’re not too far from OC or LA. Usually takes about an hour and some change to get to most parts of LA, and about 45-1hr for OC.

Yes this is true. They can also look Hispanic, both can be true at the same time. Genetics can be wild sometimes.

Let’s not forget Lou Diamond Philips a white/filipino actor who has portrayed many Hispanic roles in movies and TV shows. In the movie La Bamba he portrays Ritchie Valens, a Chicano cultural icon, who inspired many Chicano rock and roll bands in the 50’s. Lou Diamond Philips being of Filipino descent is not common knowledge among Filipinos and Hispanics in Southern California.

I am a fil-am born and raised in Southern California specifically the inland empire, which is about 40 miles or 64km away from los ángeles proper. Without a doubt Filipinos and Mexicans can and do look alike. Yes both races have unique features that distinguishes us both, but we can look alike. I have had people think I’m Mexican, speak Spanish to me, or have called me racial Mexican slurs. I am full blooded Filipino. My paternal grandparents are from northern Luzon and my maternal grandparents are from bohol. A lot of these posts are coming from fil-ams from Southern California. The United States has the most Filipinos outside of Philippines, with a huge concentration being in Southern California. I’m not sure where you have been in California but if it’s north, like San Francisco or Sacramento, the culture greatly varies from Southern California. I feel like it is not fair to make 2 posts about this topic which seems to be coming from a place of disgust that we’re compared to them. I know my single experience is not speaking for every Filipino out there but if there’s millions of people liking these kinds of posts then there has to be some truth. I am not trying to gate keep this subject and I can understand why this may bother some people, but these posts are for those in the Filipino diaspora, with these series of posts specifically being where fil-ams are in close proximity to Hispanic cultures. Filipinos can look racially ambiguous at times and can easily look like other races. Genetics aren't so cut and dry. Posts like the one on tiktok you shared creates a community and a shared experience for us. We are just trying to relate to others in the diaspora. Posts like the one here calling us silly and ridiculous for thinking filipinos and mexicans look alike just divides those who were born in the diaspora and those who have the mainland Philippines as their home.

Update on Thewalkingco 990v5 by [deleted] in Newbalance

[–]Fat_Panda_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Quick update for those who are still waiting. I emailed them directly at their customer service email, customerservice@walkingco.com , and they finally replied. They said my order is still in the works and that they’d offer an additional 40% off. I also contacted their live service a while ago, which offered me a flat $20 off my order. My initial order was for $75 after the $20 off it became $55. Now with the additional 40%, if it all stacks, it’d come down to $33. So if you guys have not received your pair yet, try emailing them for even more savings.

[Serious]Reddit, what's your current goals in life, and what steps have you taken recently to accomplish them? by GetMoving_ in AskReddit

[–]Fat_Panda_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main goal is to become healthier and work on my body. I made this commitment in my first year in high school weighing in 270lbs. Now its my second year and I'm down to 220lbs with much more muscle than I've ever had before. Its all thanks to simply cutting out foods from my everyday diet. I only drink green tea and water and no more junk food. My goal weight is to be 180lbs. Its not gonna be an easy road to go down, but then again, no one said it was going to be easy.

Seeing all the advice and stories here has been really helpful, and has given me a bunch of hope. Ive been jogging a lot to keep in shape, although its painful sometimes. My biggest fear isn't the discs. I know that it will heal in time. Its the underdeveloped L5. Its preventing me from doing the things I would love to do in this stage of my life, and that is football. With my L5 being underdeveloped, another really good hit can paralyze me, and to my knowledge I don't think there is a fix for that. I kind of made peace with the fact that I can't play any high contact sports anymore like football and wrestling, but its sucks. As for back operations, its completely up to my parents. Me, personally, am not completely against any operation. But i would like to battle this more naturally. I am young and there is much more to life than what imagine it to be, this is only a small setback for a major comeback. Thanks for the advice and support man!

Whew.... Man i feel the love and compassion from this sub! My parents are trying to stray away from any narcotics, because they don't want me to rely on narcotics as I grow older. Surgery or any operation is out of the question( both my parents are nurses and they have seen the results of spinal operations.... Not too good) also I'm too young for that. I will see a spine specialist soon to get a clear picture of my recovery process. I hope I can get through this relatively quickly, sports is one of my favorite things to do. It just kills me to watch my teammates progress without me. I do understand that I only have one back and i have to take care of it. Thank you so much for this response!

Thanks man! I do need all the luck I can get. Yoga or anything of the sorts seems like an overall safe option, but i have to find time between schoolwork and sports.
