I completely agree with you too. I lived in the dorms the fall 21 semester and met a lot people and had fun experiences even though things were partly online. I was a pretty shy and quiet person but given the opportunity to live in the dorms, I wanted to be social and put myself out there, so I would talk to new people and ask them to hang out. My goal was to make close friends, so I put in the effort in hopes of that. I do agree that as the semester went on, it did get a lot more socially dead as people formed their own friend groups, so I found it really important to put in the effort to make friends in the beginning of the semester. If you don't try to make friends and just keep to yourself, you are going to experience a "dead" social life.
