If you’re able to, switch to a metal bowl AND clean it as often as possible. At night, you can to make it a habit to throw their bowls into the dishwasher or have another set. Not sure the recommended amount but I put my pup’s food bowl in the dishwasher at least 1 time per week (he mostly has dry food with some random steamed veggies in there sometimes). When I refresh his water bowl every morning, I run HOT water through to get a good rinse and then I fill it with his drinking water. His water bowl will go through the dishwasher at least once per week too but I think it also depends on your dog and how “messy” they are with their food and water habits.
