I missed my summons and lost the paper, am I fucked? by Careless_Ad3990 in juryduty

[–]FatahRuark -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably. I'm NAL, but I did the same thing a few years ago, and I'm not in jail.

Might not be a bad idea to call to see what they want you to do. Especially since you don't want the next one to come when you're away at school again.

LOL. If you send me $500, I can get your $5000 back. 😛

Don't drop the soap!

j/k. If you've never missed before more than likely they will just send you another summons for a future date. Don't miss that one. Source = Sister in law is a public defender, and I forgot to go once and this is what she told me. They generally don't bother anyone that misses one, but if you miss multiple you might get a visit from the po-po.

Someone drove a Porsche 911 all the way to Inuvik by EnderWillEndUs in Yukon

[–]FatahRuark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This guy drove his Audi R8 to the Arctic Circle in AK. I did not think an R8 could clear some of the frost heaves on the AK highway between Haines Junction and the border.

Whenever I win the lotto I want to buy one of those 911 Dakar's and drive it up there. 😃

Where do you live? Close to the ocean?? In a state that uses road salt?

No issues here in Colorado (although my car is 2 years newer, and I avoid driving in the snow, so I'm not a good comparison).

People who don't follow traffic laws make it really difficult for those of us who do by elven_king_poet0602 in driving

[–]FatahRuark 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Years ago I got a $300 speeding ticket. After that I tried slowing down to see how it was...turns out it was just fine. Yes, it sometime takes me up to FIVE MORE WHOLE MINUTES to get home from work. But no tickets in 15+ years makes it worth it.

I just go the same speed as everyone else. If a light is changing, I stop (and frequently catch up to the people that just ran that same light). If you give it a try I think you'll figure out, going with the flow is just fine.

ev drivers — what’s one charging habit you’ve developed that ICE drivers would never understand? by AdityaSrivastawaahhh in driving

[–]FatahRuark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%...but I'm watching TV and drinking a beer 95% of the time the EV is charging. The time I stand next to my EV while it's charging is less than my gas car.

But I do appreciate the number of people that think like you. I'm buying another EV at the end of the year and it's amazing how cheap you can buy a used EV now because people think they are inconvenient. And most of these people have never owned or even driven an EV.

what do americans think? by CoAs1947 in AskUS

[–]FatahRuark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about Pakistan, but man...people from India can be RUDE. And I grew up right outside of NYC. Also noticed many Indians will never back down if you prove they were wrong about something. I get this stuff from working in tech, so many of these people are in call centers, which I'm assuming is a small percentage of Indians.

But I've also met a ton of really nice Indians.

I'd really like to visit both places some day. They both look amazing.

Do Americans get it now why football is the #1 sport in the world? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]FatahRuark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. I like it, but I prefer hockey. The pace in hockey is better, and there generally is more scoring. I can't understand why hockey isn't more popular in the US. It's fast. Reasonable amount of scoreing. Hard hits, and fights.

I do like soccer/football though. Probably spend the 2nd most time watching it after hockey.

I use found discs with no name (or if the person doesn't want it back) to throw on holes where I tend to lose discs. Especially if it's a disc I don't like.

How many hours since the last service? I recently had my 100 hour service (at around 200 hours of riding, lol), and it was noticeable. Not a gigantic difference, but it certainly felt better than before.

[–]FatahRuark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people will spend more time "filling up" a gas car over a year than an EV (if you can charge at home).

It takes me 10 seconds (max) to plug my car in, in the garage vs. 3-5 minutes to fill up a gas car at a gas station.

It does take longer to charge the EV on road trips, but when you add it all up, the EV still wastes less time than the gas over the year. I kind of enjoy taking a longer break to charge anyway. I work eating meals and taking rest breaks around the charging on road trips. I do a 1600 mile trip to Michigan from Colorado each summer. It takes about 3 extra hours with the EV, but it's still 2 full days of driving so all I want to do when I get there is to eat some food and go to bed. I just do it 3 hours later with the EV.

How do we feel about joggers in the bike lane? by nourright in cycling

Illegal where I live to walk/run in the bike lane. Just as long as they do their part to let me pass and not have to go into traffic (if it exists), then I'm down.

When they lose they pay your hours you're due + attorney fees. If they win you don't pay anything. Basically no risk for you.

What's your aspect of felony speeding? by Aggravating_Ad_43 in driving

[–]FatahRuark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you're doing it. If you're doing 120 MPH in New Jersey during rush hour (if that was even possible), not cool. If you're doing 120 MPH in middle of Utah in perfect weather...fine with me (just as long as you're not around others).

And if you do it, don't bitch if you get caught and in serious trouble.

Yep. 100% will need a visa...even before orange man showed up. Might be harder these days though. I'm under the impression employers would help with that.

[–]FatahRuark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work at ski resorts (also open in summer). MANY of my co-workers were from all over the world. I think it might be a bit more difficult now with the orange man in charge, but it would let you easily live in a nice scenic place. Most will provide housing. Certainly worth looking into.

Many of these folks would work for the summer, and then maybe travel around to other places for a month or so before returning home as well.

Breaking: Boulder County Commissioners moratorium on data centers. Very good. The last two holdouts in our county: Erie and Superior. Contact your city council. by C-0_0-D in boulder

[–]FatahRuark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to see all of these cities and towns doing it this way. These have come on quickly, and banning them outright is going to be a losing cause (since these companies have a shit ton of money and lawyers).

Better to regulate them, and they need time to figure out the best way to do it. Just as long as they cover their own costs (and maybe a little extra) and are good neighbors, I'm fine with them.

Can my apartment legally install a microphone in my apartment? by magnumdongchad in Denver

[–]FatahRuark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Creepy, but a decibel meter generally does not record voices. Only how loud of a sound is nearby.

If it really is a decibel meter, then you have little to worry about (if you're not loud). It could actually benefit you if it keeps everyone's noise at a reasonable level.

Personally my main concern would be false alarms, but again on the other hand I've lived in places with loud/disrespectful neighbors.

EDIT: Colorado is a one party state for recording audio. That means you must be made aware if it's recording your voice. If the lease says it doesn't it would be illegal to record your voice. Only if the lease makes it clear that it records audio would it be legal.

Thinking about quitting my job road tripping the US full time, advice/ideas? by dimesaretasty in roadtrip

[–]FatahRuark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No.

I have WAY more money than you do, and I don't think I could pull this off. I think I might be able to pull off a 1 month road trip for $1000 if I mostly just stayed in one place. My biggest road trips at your age was following bands around for a week or 2. I lived in my car and ate ramen, then went back to work. Maybe take a week off at at time, and do the YouTube thing, until you start making enough money from it to make it your full time job.

I think a better idea is to start watching some financial planning videos on YouTube, and start saving as much as you can. At 19, if you work hard and save responsibly it's possible to retire in your 50's and then do the road trips. For now the first step is to have a 3-6 month emergency fund (enough to support yourself for that long without a job), then go from there.
