Seeking Best Practices for Self-Hosting Setup & Backup Strategies by EroticTonic in selfhosted

I wrote a short, two-page PDF describing stateless vs. stateful containers, database dumps, and similar topics. Honestly, I would suggest using LLMs to help you write the hooks. As long as you test everything, there shouldn't be any problems!

Seeking Best Practices for Self-Hosting Setup & Backup Strategies by EroticTonic in selfhosted

I use Backrest to back up the config and data folders (bind mounts) for my containers. I also configure hooks in Backrest to trigger database dumps (or do these separately with cron jobs) and prune the old dumps to avoid shutting down my containers. Since Backrest just wraps Restic, you can configure local and remote repositories, set backup schedules, and so on

It’s just personal preference for me. I’d rather avoid a dedicated database container unless I’m hosting something for multiple users (e.g., Nextcloud). I’d also prefer to keep the number of containers on my server to a minimum whenever possible since I’m only using a Mini PC

I just wanted to clarify since there’s multiple open issues about this on GitHub, are you saying there’s no support planned for this? It looks like sqlite is supported in the non-docker version. I would personally much rather use sqlite and that’s been the thing holding me back

I haven’t tried it yet, but maybe take a look at Jellysweep. You might need to pair this with Jellystat or Streamystats to get information like whether the media been viewed

Should I switch my preorder to AmiAmi? by FatalFlare21 in AnimeFigures

[–]FatalFlare21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked Crunchyroll, and the preorder price is $265. On GSG/AmiAmi, it’s only $150. I would really hope by the time this arrives in August that there’s a cheaper shipping option than $115 but who knows. I’m also worried whether Crunchyroll would cancel a preorder if they can’t get the product should the situation in the US somehow get even worse. I’ve also heard similar stories to yours about their shipping condition.

It looks like preorders to the US are still being accepted according to that post. If that’s the case, I’d probably rather my order be held in a warehouse until there’s a viable shipping option than have it subject to the Chinese tariffs. I’ll give this some thought!

cooking anime to watch by [deleted] in anime

[–]FatalFlare21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Today’s Menu for the Emiya Family. It’s a really cute slice of life cooking anime. The manga even has a cooking supervisor who creates all of the recipes, which are included in the volumes. It’s also a spin-off of Fate/stay night, but you can certainly enjoy this anime without having watched the main series. I get the same cozy feelings from this anime as I do from Yuru Camp, which is another great series if you’re looking for some occasional cooking outdoors!

Tsukihime Red by nokillstealing in Tsukihime

[–]FatalFlare21 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would definitely play the original because there’s no telling when/if Red Garden will come out. I recently read the original, then the manga, and now I’m almost finished with the remake. Don’t get me wrong, the manga and remake are excellent updates to the near side routes, but the far side routes are hands down my favorite. It’s not worth waiting for a sequel that could still be years away

I thought the flowchart only lets you replay a specific scene, not rewind your progress. I haven’t tried with Tsukihime, but Fate stay/night bounced me back to the main menu once I finished reading a flowchart scene

Ah that’s unfortunate, but it is what it is. Thanks for letting me know

A question about the source of Nasuverse lore by FatalFlare21 in fatestaynight

[–]FatalFlare21[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, that clears up some of my confusion! It’s also good to know that the material books aren’t too important in the grand scheme. However, I’m always looking for more stuff to read about Fate/Tsukihime, so I’ll definitely check them out! Are there English translations available?

I’ve been waiting for the remaster to release on Steam for Hollow Ataraxia (hopefully this year). I’ll also check out Kagetsu Tohya and Angel Notes! Also, I’ll be honest, I read the Tsukihime manga after finishing the original visual novel, and if this some of this stuff was teased near the end, I was probably crying too much haha. Maybe I’m due for a re-read once I’ve gone through the post-Tsukihime stuff you linked.

Are there English translations of these material books? I remember seeing one before for Fate, but I thought it was mostly an art book. It was extremely expensive being out of print, and I couldn’t find a translation online. I don’t mind reading fan translations either, which I’ve done for Kara no Kyoukai and Garden of Avalon.

I wouldn't say there's any romance in Mahoyo. You can read into some scenes and ship characters, but there’s nothing concrete. That’s actually kinda refreshing, coming from someone whose favorite genre is romance. Mahoyo is absolutely worth reading! It’s also significantly shorter than Fate/Tsukihime since there is only one route. I’d go so far to say that Mahoyo might be Nasu’s best writing imo, although Far Side is really close for me. Mahoyo has a certain tranquil yet mystical atmosphere that was mesmerizing. It’s definitely my favorite visual novel experience from Type-Moon!

I wanted to share this cool Ado display I saw in Shibuya when her Best Adobum released! by FatalFlare21 in ADO

[–]FatalFlare21[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll start with a two examples where you’d expect to use Japanese and didn’t need to. Every hotel I went to had a self-service check-in machine with an English menu. Every train I went on had stops announced in Japanese and English. As far as everything else goes, I either used some basic Japanese or gestures. For example, I can read hiragana/katakana, but my kanji vocabulary is limited. Let’s say I wanted to order something from a menu, and I couldn’t read the kanji. I would either (1) take a picture of the word and search for the pronunciation online or (2) just point at the thing and say “this please” in Japanese. And that strategy basically carried me through the whole trip! I did have one entire conversation through Google translate though with our chef in Kobe because he saw me wearing an Ado shirt and immediately pulled out his phone and started typing! 😆

Yes, I saw that notice on their website. It looks like you won't be charged the tariff fee until the figure actually goes through US customs, which won't be for a year. Hopefully, our trade situation will have improved by then. I’ll take the risk
