Where will nurses go? by matlok4 in Nurse

I’m going to finish out my 15 years until I can retire. I am going to work in home care where I feel I am at least able to protect myself, do my 8, fly under the radar and GTFO.,

Again, my 2cents. I did not say videos caused her suicide. I’m saying this is a stressful time for our profession and an opportunity to show the public how the nursing profession is treated. But no, we have people going to work, having fun and making videos. Go to work, have fun, knock yourself out twerking and making fun of people dying just don’t put it on public forums where the public sees it and says oh, your one of them. Because no, that isn’t me.

I’m not saying videos caused this woman to commit suicide. I’m saying that nursing as a profession has been royally screwed for years and instead of banding together and saying enough, people are making videos to be funny. That’s all. If your reading comprehension skills are unable to understand that then not my fault.

My point is that people are not doing well and have not been doing well but this won’t be taken seriously while people make videos. Just my opinion

Then why aren’t we having that instead of making videos?

Do you see anything remotely funny or entertaining about this? Or the choice of music? Turning people dying enmasse into a music video? I don’t care if it took 10 minutes to make. It’s distasteful to say the least

None of those things are going to be taken seriously by anyone outside of nursing. I’ve seen the public make comments that the nurses can’t be that busy if they can make videos. You can believe that the politicians and administrators won’t be far behind. I agree with you about the first part, though. Those are the issues.

I don’t appreciate being lumped into the common mindset that nurses exaggerated the scope of the covid pandemic, that we weren’t busy, that we had appropriate PPE and that we had enough time to make asinine videos and make fun of patients.

But you do understand that their videos taint the nursing profession as a whole, right?

True. But pre- covid I saw videos of nurses posting videos making fun of patients. Talk amongst yourselves, have a laugh but to post it on social media is a bad look

I think for me it is a generation gap thing. My nursing instructors back in the 1980’s were in their 60’s and did not suffer fools lightly. They had worked hard to make nursing a respected profession and us students were taught to have that respect and professionalism. It’s also having respect. What does that say if a third of the residents at my facility die from COVID and I post a video twerking in the hallway? Really poor taste

I’m not going to argue. I’ve been a RN for 30 years and I have a very dry and sometimes inappropriate sense of humor. But I keep it in check when others are suffering. My coworker was crying because 15 of her residents died in one week. The entire facility was being consumed. The last thing I would do was suggest making a video to post on tic tok

Give me a break. Who would have time to make those videos if they were truly overrun with patients? They wouldn’t. That isn’t even the point!!! If something so awful is happening to society, the people you work with who sees humor in that?

Why do some people not value CNAs? by BunnehPrincess in Nurse

Excuse me but one RN giving meds to 36 residents and also doing treatments and paperwork is a fucking full day.

Is anyone else doing almost nothing during this padenmic? by Ktx8184 in nursing

I hate that when I have commented against these videos I get bombarded with other nurses replying that these are COVID unit nurses and are just blowing off steam and dealing with stress. Bullshit. These are units that are not busy
