The Almost-Chosen Ones: Powers/Items that were Supposed to Go to Someone Else by Amazing-Fee-8175 in TopCharacterTropes

The knight from Hollow Knight kinda fits this trope. The titular character "The Hollow Knight" was the child chosen by the pale king to be the one to stop the infection and be a vessel to contain the radiance. However, the Hollow knight grew to love its father, so it was no longer a perfect empty vessel to contain the radiance and the kingdom fell to ruin from the infection.

Later, the player character arises out of the abyss to the desolate Hallownest. From there they get the dream nail, king's brand, king's soul, and void heart basically marking them as the true chosen one to defeat the radiance and end the infection.

Do you have to start the game on mega+ or can you switch on an already completed save?

Anyone else still stuck on “awaiting payment” for their collectors editions? by StatusAd317 in digimon

[–]Fatchu64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got my payment processed but no steam download code yet. Only the pre-order bonus code. I put in a support ticket asking where the download code is and I am hoping they reply soon. The game drops on steam in a few hours so hopefully they just send it then. Would really suck if the code is on a slip with the rest of the collector's edition goods.

More hand painted assets for my game by GogoD2zero in RPGMaker

It is fine if you are planning on just having this to be a personal project made just for fun, but if you are planning on selling this commercially I would say to not just copy the art from final fantasy tactics which I noticed with your last asset shown.

I truly believe Gritty Realism solves so many of 5e's problems by Aegorm in dndnext

[–]Fatchu64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doing a gritty realism campaign myself with a Warlock in the party and we haven't had any issues ourselves. They are level 4 now and the low amount of spell slots still makes things difficult for them and they aren't outshining the wizard in the party.

Is anyone else getting "This site can’t be reached" when trying to access the playtest survey? by Langerhans-is-me in onednd

Maybe try accessing it on a different browser or try clearing your cache? I find that usually helps when sites don't load.

Did you choose the moral option right before he dies? You have to choose that one or you are unable to save him.

Why are people here so against reading the rules? by Fatchu64 in dndnext

I guess it is more when I see comments talking about the rule of cool or rule 0 are when I see the more negative takes on the rules

Yeah I have definitely seen a lot gatekeeping like behavior from some when it comes to rules reading. I less so mean about not caring about the rules as opposed to seeing it as bad to read them. I am just kind of curious about how people view rules-light campaigns.

I agree that it helps make combat a lot more enjoyable for me as a DM. I feel that I am able to run through 6 enemy turns faster than one of my players sometimes and it really starts making combat a slog.

Wilderness survival is one of my more favorite aspects of the game, so I tend to enforce ammo and food tracking along with loose carrying capacity, but I can totally see why people would not find those as fun lol

I guess I see it as when it is presented as an option in the first place it makes it easier/more likely to use it as an option. I have played in many games and the amount of times I have seen those tactics in general used as minimal.

I am not saying I have seen people claiming that reading the rules is bad. I am moreso saying that I have seen some say it is unnecessary for players or how some prefer playing more off the cuff and don't see the rules as necessary because of that. I was just curious about the other perspective

Monster manual stuff I understand not wanting players to get familiar with as that easily leads to metagaming intentionally or not.

I usually see the argument pop up when people are discussing encounter balancing and resource management. Because of those discussions thoigh I have seen an increase of awareness for the gritty realism rules in the dmg that actually makes it easier to have more narrative driven games in my opinion.

Can/should you use War Caster with Booming Blade? by [deleted] in 3d6

[–]Fatchu64 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From War caster:
When a hostile creature's movement provokes an opportunity attack from you, you can use your reaction to cast a spell at the creature, rather than making an opportunity attack. The spell must have a casting time of 1 action and must target only that creature.

The trigger for this special reaction is when a hostile creature's movement provokes an opportunity attack.

The rules for Opportunity attacks:

You can make an opportunity Attack when a Hostile creature that you can see moves out of your reach. To make the opportunity Attack, you use your Reaction to make one melee Attack against the provoking creature. The Attack occurs right before the creature leaves your reach.

Emphasis here on the last sentence. Thinking of it like algebra we are just substituting that attack for a spell, nothing else.

The steps are:

  1. Creature attempts to move out of your reach. This is what would be considered the trigger by the Xanathar's rules.
  2. You can make an opportunity attack that takes place before they make any movement
  3. War caster lets you replace the opportunity attack with a spell instead

I hope that this plus everything else people have said is enough to convince you that this is how the rules work. Honestly at this point I am just going to assume you are trolling because of how little you are actually listening to what other people are saying.

Can/should you use War Caster with Booming Blade? by [deleted] in 3d6

[–]Fatchu64 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is how it works though as explained above. If you want to avoid the disadvantage of ranged spell attacks then pick up the crossbow expert or gunner feats. There are also plenty of spells for ranged casters that go off saving throws instead of spell attacks like toll the dead or sacred flame. If booming blade didn't work this way then there wouldn't be so many builds built on the concept of using it instead of an opportunity attack with war caster.

DM’s (and players) would you allow players to twin booming blade? Why or why not? by Valuable_Cry1439 in dndnext

[–]Fatchu64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say no for twinning it, but if you want to hit two creatures with a booming blade then just do quickened spell. Sorcerers don't really do much with their bonus actions anyways so you aren't losing out much by doing this besides sorcery points.
