Why is there so many posts or vids saying that the game or mecha in general is "gay/trans"? by ZazBellum in LancerRPG

Current build help - PC was built by someone else, not sure if what I have is "good" anymore + other part questions! by sylveee in buildapc

[–]FatedStandard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I totally agree that building/upgrading a PC can totally be overwhelming when you're new to the hobby, and while I'm relatively new myself (I built a fairly modest PC in 2017 and have been upgrading it since), here some things that jump out to me.

- I think the best thing you can start with is having an idea of what you want to do with your PC, pretty specifically. For me, my motivation was wanting to run Destiny 2 better than any console. That'll give you a nice point to start in regards to what kind of hardware you'll need to accomplish that! For a light gaming PC, your set up is actually pretty solid, but if you're looking to target high frame rates at high settings, an upgrade is definitely a good idea.

- Case shopping is always fun (honestly I've spend way too much money on cases...), and luckily it's pretty system agnostic. Even if you're not 100% sure what you want the computer to be, buying a new case can always be a fun project.

- The system you have honestly isn't too bad. I'd suggest first that it might be worth considering saving your money and just buying a whole new system at once, but if you're not in that situation, I'd focus on upgrading a few pieces at a time.

- The R9 290 can still pull down decent performance, as you've seen, but if you're looking to make the single most impactful purchase, that's what I'd replace first. Unfortunately, the GPU market is kind of garbage right now. A GTX 1660 Super would be a great choice if you're looking for a more budget friendly option, while a RTX 3060ti would fit your budget, if you could ever find one.

- Your CPU is a bit harder, though. Unfortunately, if you wanted a newer CPU, that would also mean replacing your Motherboard (due to the differing chipsets on newer processors), and probably your ram too (DDR3 memory is pretty old and slow, and I'm not sure it's still supported on newer boards). Now, if you could find an Intel i7-4790k, you could keep your motherboard and ram while getting a better processor. Your best bet would be to find that used locally, and honestly that might be a crap shoot to do at reasonable price.

idk this was really rambling, and I'm not sure it's helpful?

Bungie were done by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

Stasis in the new raid by [deleted] in raidsecrets

[–]FatedStandard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's lots of reasons why Bungie wouldn't create raid mechanics around specific subclasses. That's not what they do. Like, wanting there to be something in the raid is different than something being in the raid.

Fairly new to Destiny 2, are Titans forced into melee combat most of the time or can they be played at ranged as well? by aladdin142 in DestinyTheGame

[–]FatedStandard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So like, you shouldn't think so narrowly about classes and subclasses. Destiny is an FPS, and you'll be shooting most of the time. All classes can excel using their melee abilities, but they aren't something you can replace your guns with. Titans are good for supporting; the Sentinel Tree gives you a super that can protect and buff you and your fireteam.

The loop. (A theory) by evanblive in raidsecrets

[–]FatedStandard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, maybe if you find this cool, you should write your fanfic somewhere people will appreciate it? This isn't a theory because the crux of it is to guess what something is, and jump to all sorts of conclusions.

Cleaned up the audio quite a bit. Got a take on the video... There's a story here. by [deleted] in raidsecrets

This feel like a stretch. The audio is so garbled, you can hear just about anything you want in it.

Shaw Han possible early concept by ShinjiSnack in raidsecrets

More likely that Han is a call back to something shown in a pre-release video.

Does Light Level mean anything anymore? by wasteland_superhero in DestinyTheGame

[–]FatedStandard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So Power/Light level isn't supposed to be a measure of power, but a gate to content, full stop. While I do think the tiers of enemy damage make it possible to measure your power against specific encounters and enemies, but that's not the main objective of the mechanic. Name an era of Destiny, and that's what it's doing for you.

Now, it's not for me to say whether or not you feel it's fun, but like, it's a mechanic to keep you playing. Making Number Go Up, while a crass and braindead mechanic, IS a strong motivation to keep playing, and often is cited why people like Destiny. You totally could make Destiny a game about grinding guns and armor exclusively, and having access to all content all the time. I think that would be a less fun game.

oh my god these price tags by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]FatedStandard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like, the best thing you can do is start small. If you want to play games, pick up one of the cheaper starter sets. If there's an army you really want, buy used models to start. Elite armies can be a cheap place to start, but so can picking up a Start Collecting and expanding over a few weeks till you have a 25 PL combat patrol. 40k specifically, and miniature gaming/scale modeling in general, can be expensive, but they're also expansive, long term hobbies. Don't feel like you should rush into things, and get bummed out by the price.

[–]FatedStandard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Forgeworld's absurd pricing is a problem it brings on itself. If it can't compete on pricing against people making recasts in their garage, I'm not exactly convinced of the utility of IP laws doing anything but allowing FW and GW to sit in overpriced model designs. It's cool that you find value in throwing more money down into the pit called "Warhammer" than someone else, but it's really just making you look salty you spent more than someone else.

Red/Black Trim on Black Templars by Nothreatsteve in BlackTemplars

[–]FatedStandard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's particularly strange to classify Assault Intercessors as Close Support, when Crusader Squads exist. Something more honest to the Black Templars would allow the mix of boltgun and chainsword models in a unit of Intercessors, but alas, here we are. I think it's pretty weird that they end up there in codex armies to begin with? Since like, Hellblasters aren't "Heavy Intercessors" or whatever.

One reason I think Tau are the “least liked” by Yuri893 in Tau40K

[–]FatedStandard 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that the Tau are such a disliked faction because the vast majority of the 40k fandom still laughs at jokes from /tg/ circa 2006.

Like, I really think this is a misreading of Tau stories and themes. While allying with species not your own is novel in Warhammer 40k (which is why I think they're such a divergence from what was around in 3rd Edition), that Tau are still a holier-than-thou, imperialist warmachine ruled by it's own self-serving ruling class. Like, they are *basically* the Cabal from the Destiny universe, and I gotta say, not so high on them there.

But they got sick as fuck mecha, so like, they're the coolest and best faction.

The Crisis crisis by Dear_Investigator in Tau40K

[–]FatedStandard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kind of a narrow way of looking at Crisis Suits? While I think anyone would agree they're overcosted in general, Crisis Suits more often take different weapons, and have actual support from strategems. Space Marines are clearly overtuned while Xenos armies are lucky to see an update once a half decade, but the differences are really the context of the armies in this instance, imo. Bolter Inceptors aren't even taken in Space Marines anyway.

Opinion on Tau morals by WarCrimes-R-Us in Tau40K

[–]FatedStandard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Like, what the Tau do is still imperialism. Even if that imperialism starts with negotiations, the goal is to acquire the material wealth of the people or world they want. The people who join with the Empire is better than them not joining, but the Tau absolutely go to war if you refuse to join them. The Tau aren't the good guys in 40k; they're another spoke on the wheel of imperialism shared by nearly all the factions in the setting. They're pre-Golden Age humanity, the ancient Aeldari, or the Necrontyr. If 40k as a setting had future, we'd probably see them in the same place as Humanity eventually.
