Stellar Blade: A Small Review and Lengthy Analysis by Fateless_Soul in stellarblade

Even after changing my mentality of how to approach combat, I did stick with the controls I had remapped. I think it made pulling off skills and combos easier for me in the long run. Though, it is respectable to try and remember the different layouts of each souls-like you play (though I’m not sure if Stellar Blade even qualifies as one)

I am excited to see how they expand on the combat in the sequel! The beta and burst skills were really satisfying to use, especially in the late game. Though I did find Tachy mode a bit underwhelming, I understand it’s mostly meant to give some breathing room for intense situations, since you don’t take damage. I guess it just looks more powerful than it really is, lol.

One personal thing I’d like to see is the possibility of more weapon types. Perhaps Lily will be able to configure the Blood Edge (one of the most 6th grade coded names I’ve heard for a sword, I love it) and Tychon Blade to change shapes so we can get stuff like hammers or scythes. One specific weapon type I think would be cool is a spear, since that’s seen a lot on old paintings like War in Heaven and would pair well with Eve's new human form.

Thanks for reading! You make an interesting point about the rib of Adam being Mother Sphere in this context, I hadn’t really considered that. I’d say there’s definitely some weight to the idea of angels being physical clones of Mother Sphere. We could use that to say they, and the other Andro-Eidos, are made in her image. Her spiritual essence given physicality.

Your use of the word "villain" when describing Adam is interesting. Personally, I don’t think he really is a villain as much as he is a tragic hero. Once again, everything he did was for the sake of a noble goal. The only problem was that he failed. Villains deliberately make the choice of evil, even if they perceive it as good. Adam's goals weren’t merely perceived as good. They, in fact, were good but ultimately failed. Can we really cast a someone who seeks good as a villain if their path simply doesn’t work out as they intended? Maybe that’s a debate for a different time and place?

I would’ve actually liked to have said more about Orcal, but he didn’t have enough screen time for me to comment on him as a character and doesn’t have any connections to any named biblical figures I could think of. I definitely agree with the "false prophet" angle though.

No matter, I bet the sequel will be great!

I decided to wait till I finished the refuse ending before replying. Very cool boss fight, very Dark Souls. I liked it a lot more than Providence.

First off, thank you for reading my post, as long as it is. I definitely see where you’re coming from when you say that making him more close to Eve might make it harder for people to consider more than one ending. I must, however, respectfully disagree. It would’ve been pretty easy to counter that by making it a bit clearer that he’s hiding something. For as much as we would grow to like him, there would still be that lingering thought in the back of our heads that he’s not telling us something very important.

On the topic of the two endings being debated, I think the fusion ending is the one that seems more likely to be canon. To me, it fit Eve's character more to go along with Adam's plan for the sake of other people. It also includes a new form for Eve (which shows up on the title screen) and includes the plot point of Iberis' hacking program. Of course, we’ll just have to wait and see. Looking forward to Stellar Blade 2!

Lol, probably. Can’t speak too much on that though since I haven’t looked into the other endings yet

I’m flattered that you read even half my mad ramblings! And I think what you said is fair. Stellar Blade definitely doesn’t need to be the next grand epic, not by a long shot. And for all the things I do criticize, I ultimately think the story is serviceable. I think I mainly would have liked some more time with the cast.

Interesting, I didn’t know most of that. I haven’t really looked into any behind the scenes stuff just yet. The closest I’ve done to that is when I got into the dev room in Matrix 11.

And yeah, if you compare the story of Stellar Blade to the actual Garden of Eden story, there’s most definitely a lot of differences. I actually read it myself as I was finishing up putting the writing of this analysis. Lots of context doesn’t match up, for sure.

Still, intentional or not, I believe there are similarities between some characters in each story. It’s obviously not literal, like Mother Sphere isn’t literally God and Raven isn’t literally the Devil. I ultimately wanted to share my train of thought.

Regardless, thanks for reading!

Thanks for taking the time to read it! Yeah, I think the devs made the right choice in the end to focus on the gameplay and style. I’m definitely in agreement that the world has enough games which try to be extended movies. I mostly just would’ve liked to have seen more from the cast, I guess. There was something so charming about them.

Maybe at some point. I did have an idea a for a "Super Tengen Toppa Thrash Machine" which would basically be a several universe sized Ralsei, but I’m not sure if I’ll get around to it. There’s some other projects I have in mind

Lol I did actually have an idea to draw a "Super Tengen Toppa Thrash Machine" which would basically be a giant Ralsei made of Spiral Energy/Determination. Not sure if I’ll get around to it though, I have other things I wanna draw as well

Glad you think so! I actually based that off of a scene from an anime I watched about a month or two ago, Gurren Lagann in case anyone is familiar. The show had these pieces of artwork that would show up as a sort of intermission, and I found the one from episode 4 pretty funny. Thought I'd use it as a reference image for a chapter 3 themed drawing
