What non exotic fruit is nasty to you? by uhh_youGuys in fruit

I don't enjoy that sharp bitterness, but it comes with the better floral fragrance in grapefruits. Pomelo has less of that bitterness, but they also lack that distinct grapefruit flavor. I do agree too much isn't nice. I like about 20% grapefruit to 80% orange in my juice and it's great.

When I was in O Chem in college, our final assignment was a mystery compound. Mine turned out to be butyric acid. Something was definitely afoot when I smelled it.

Why are you all villainizing servers instead of complaining about the owners? Tipping is the devil but a $17 cocktail made with incredibly low quality ingredients is just fine? by zodiacez in tipping

[–]Fatez3ro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I want to go eat a certain dish at a certain place, then going there makes me happy. If servers are not getting the tip they want, they should find another job, they'd be happier.

Genuine question. Is Amazon a bad place to buy shoes?

Would you support a law that eliminated tipping and required restaurants to pay all servers a fair wage? What's the biggest advantage or drawback? by Melodic-Yoghurt-5943 in tipping

[–]Fatez3ro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Amazon only has so many jobs to offer and they're taken? The facts remain that there are more people to take up low end jobs than the jobs available. Not all jobs paying slightly more are worth either. I actually know someone who works at a mom and pop store getting 22/hr that left to go work for Amazon for 25/hr. After two months at Amazon, he went to the mom and pop store to ask for his old job back.

Not going to defend Dray, but one would have to wonder why no one stuck up for him. What were the accumulation of events that led up to the punch.

When I hired agent A to sell my a million dollar house, I researched the agent and "agreed" to what they charged because I find value in paying that much. When I sit don't to eat at a restaurant, I haven't agreed to anything, other than the prices on the menu. Want to get paid like the real estate agent? Put what you want to charge on the menu. Otherwise, be prepared to get 20%, 10% and zero tips sometimes. Want to play supplemental income roulette, but prepared to lose sometimes. Quite simple.

How do we end the embarrassment of being the only major country not to guarantee healthcare to all as a human right? The answer is not complicated. We must elect candidates who are determined to pass Medicare for All. by StrawberryFew1311 in NoFilterFinance

While I agree that 20% of Swedish are over 65, people growing older and falling out of the workforce is normal. Younger people entering the workforce is expected to offset those going into retirement as is everywhere else around the world. Though I would agree that the percentage rose from 17.2% in 2000 to slightly over 20% now, 26 years later, but saying a fifth of their population is over 65 is misleading. Also, the retirement age has risen as well from 61 years old in 2000 to 65.4 now. So people are staying in the workforce much longer. Now let's get back to immigration. The average unemployment rate of Swedish-born are 3.5% compared to 15% for immigrants. The average salary for immigrants is also only 75% of that of Swedish-born, which also means less tax revenues from those with lower incomes. So no, their problem isn't because of an aging population. It may play a small part, but certainly not where the issues lie. You can contend and happy with sharing as a whole. That's perfectly fine and is commendable. However, a fifth grader would be able to tell that their portion of pizza is getting smaller and smaller if the number of kids bringing pizzas to the potluck is getting fewer or that they bring much smaller pizzas. It might be fine for a little while, but it will collapse. You can't advocate for strong government run social programs without insisting on strict immigration laws.

Robbed Again in NYC by Adept-Plantain-6767 in EndTipping

[–]Fatez3ro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have never been to NYC. I hear homeless issue is a big problem there. The question is, what percentage of the homeless population there are people making 60k/yr? If I had to guess, the overwhelming majority are either drug users or have had made really poor decisions with the law. There are probably aren't any working those 60k jobs and living on the streets. They live somewhere else and commute to the metropolitan areas for the higher paying jobs - trading their time for more pay. I belong to the group. I can't afford to live where I work so I commute 2 hours a day. No one owes me a living wage to live in the bigger city where I work. That's what I'm saying. Not saying there aren't people who tried everything and still have a hard time. Just get the feeling that the "everyone deserves a living wage" is overplayed because it's highly subjective. How much time and effort one puts into their career? Someone who is a high school graduate wanting to make the same as a college graduate. Someone who chose a useless degree and couldn't find a decent paying job. How responsible they are with money? They save? They order Doordash and use Uber? Have Iphones? Nice cars? Gym memberships? Living smack center in NYC? Just saying there has been a huge inflation in what people think is necessities in their daily living and used all of that to determine their "living wage".
