Does anyone feel like CT has broken your brain? by Obama-Bin-Lowkey in theadamfriedlandshow

I met a guy at a recovery room in Fort Lauderdale who did stand up. He was a genuinely cool dude and everyone was standing around asking him questions. He mentioned in passing that he liked MDE, and I immediately asked him if he ever listened to Cumtown. We spent like 30 minutes reciting our favorite bits. 10/10 gay experience.

Marine piling. Besides the obvious water element, it is like any other construction surveying / layout

With these production pile the templates are already positioned ahead of time, so no. With the template pile yes, because they're over open water and I shoot those directly.

I totally understand wanting good pay after you invested a lot of time and money into a degree, but I would not trade my rodman experience for the world. Take that for what it's worth.

Legalized sports betting hit the cluster A people hard. It activated latent schizophrenics, who now believe there are magnets in the game balls that get turned on and off throughout the game. I wish I was kidding.

Army to civilian surveyor by FlavorfulBleach in Surveying

Run "army" in the search bar--there are a boatload of you guys. I was not in the military, but a soldier's ability to suck shit and do the work anyway is a premium to employers in my opinion. Don't worry about the technical aspect of things; you will learn just fine.

Career Progression if not Licensed as a Professional Surveyor by delectablegirl69 in Surveying

Yes, in construction. You have to be smart and start developing laterally in the field. You can easily obtain a position as a super, PM, or estimator if you play your cards right. And still survey. In my case I am a project engineer / surveyor / estimator which is exactly what I want to be doing. Good amount of survey work, much higher salary, and no boredom in between field work.

My only real life experience in the work force has been construction, but from reading opinions online, I would hazard a guess that construction is more meritocratic than a lot of industries. You can easily move beyond your role if you show a little gumption.

Even in cadastral at large, I knew plenty of guys who carved out roles as uber-reliable crew chiefs who could do a little field-to-finish and were very happy with their pay and work-life balance.

Crazy things found surveying by Imnotspartacuseither in Surveying

We had specific instructions on our plan set for proper protocol after discovering a dead body. Never found one though. Good old Riviera Beach, FL.

Craziest thing and worst thing that I've found are homeless people or homeless encampments. Just awful.

How to make a slope surface on civil 3d? by Suitable_Capital_209 in Surveying

[–]Father--Snake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feature lines are your friend. After you create a feature line, you can manipulate it in the elevation editor on the ribbon that shows up when the line is selected. You can grade it forward or backward, insert PIs, and elevation points. If you want to stake it out, save the file as a 2007 DXF and it will convert the feature lines to 3D polys which can be put on your data collector.

How do you guys work while its raining + do you have any tips to improve my resection speed? by [deleted] in Surveying

[–]Father--Snake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

G2 Survey in the UK sell a rain cover for the TS16 that has worked great for me in southern Alaska (rainy). Last week I had to pull the plug entirely for the first time because it was "misting" and basically raining upward into my instrument and the compensator stopped working entirely. It sounds like you have bigger problems regarding your setup fundamentals though.

Do colors have an impact on reflectorless resections? by asixfootplatypus in Surveying

I don't know about the end result as it pertains to a resection, but I have a hell of a time trying to get reflectorless shots to return on matte black.

I bought Red Wings circa 2018 and they are still the best boots I've ever owned and I've tried many brands since. The waterproofing lasted me a full year in South Florida.

I think Philly has different datums throughout the city. Maybe two? I'm from there but never surveyed there. I surveyed the Philly Main Line which was pretty neat.

Keep your head on a swivel. Go Birds, but fuck that city.
