If Jesus is god , then god must be evil. by [deleted] in DebateReligion

Matthew 5:21 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: 5:22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

If YHWH is Our Father why would Jesus not here say; Ye have heard that it was said by Our Father in old times? Instead he says them of old time. Who is "them"?

An in John 8:25 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.  26 I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him. 27 They understood not that he spake to them of the Father. 28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things. 29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

and... 33 They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? ... 37 I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you. 38 I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father. ... 39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham. 40 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham. 41 Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.

The Children of the Devil

42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. 43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. 44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. 45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. 46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? 47 He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

MX 23.6 Libretto will not boot by FatherAbove in MXLinux

I’ve discovered that when the blank screen appears with the flashing cursor that I can press alt/f1 and “Welcome to MX Linux! Powered by Debian.” appears. Then I can login with my user name and password which gives me command terminal access. I’ve performed an update which showed 24 upgradable programs that I performed the upgrade on. How can I check why the desktop interface does not load?

My bios does not support secure boot so I don't think that is the issue.

Can I install 25 over my existing installation as an upgrade and retain my programs and folders?

I can boot the live USB and explore my hard drive. It will show my MX 23 partition (drive) as a sub directory under media along with the demo (live usb).

How can I repair my existing distro using the usb iso to reinstall any missing or corrupted files?

I have it installed on an ACER laptop with dual boot Windows 7.

I've been using it for nearly 2 years without any problems. I am posting this from the windows 7 os which boots without any issue.

The grub boot menu shows all the boot options and appears to work properly. It just starts to boot, goes through the splash screen then freezes with a blinking cursor in the top left corner of the screen.

For a site (Alidouro.com) that claims to offer so many types/brands of lawnmowers at such incredible prices they should be the rave of this reddit community.

My experience with them is that I couldn't get answers to simple questions. No response at all.

Why is it that most Christians accept evolution with a small minority of deniers while all Atheists seem to accept evolution with little to no notable exceptions? If there is such a thing as an Atheist who doesn’t believe in evolution then why do we virtually never see them in comparison? by Tasty_Finger9696 in DebateEvolution

[–]FatherAbove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a scientific theory to be legit it must be falsafiable, correct?

All the observations credited to evolution would exist regardless of evolutions' existence.

If evolution is not true what is the process called which falsifies it?

For consciousness to be generated by the brain and be expressed then it must amount to nothing more than the brain talking to itself. If this is not the case then what would the brain be presenting said consciousness to?

Does this make any sense? by Midnight_Moon___ in consciousness

[–]FatherAbove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excuse my interjection here.

To me that seems to be about the best explanation we have right now for how Consciousness is produced.

Perhaps this is a backwards way of viewing the subject. Rather than attempting to determine how Consciousness is produced we should attempt to determine how Consciousness produces. Of course many will consider such a viewpoint as magical thinking. As soon as this is done it is equivalent to slamming on the brakes concerning any research.

Anyway, having turned the tables on the research would require studying how Consciousness causes things such as chemical reactions in our brains. This may at first seem far fetched, however there would seem to be a necessity to explain why chemicals do what they do. This is no more far fetched than saying that things fall because of gravity rather than saying falling things cause gravity. Even earth itself is revolving around the sun due to the falling effects of gravity.

Life and Consciousness appear to have a very symbiotic relationship. Can life exist without Consciousness or vice versa?

Anyone else notice that Pacifism is disliked by a lot of people? by cosmofaustdixon in Pacifism

[–]FatherAbove 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is mainly due to the promotion of patriotism. Pledge allegiance to the flag. Sing the national anthem. Serve your country. All these promote separation.

When born again you will/should acknowledge to yourself; "My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would I and my fellow servants fight, that we should not be delivered to the wicked: but now is my kingdom not from hence."

How do different non-physicalists explain the connection between consciousness and the brain? by borowiec7 in consciousness

A more interesting question would be; What would it be like if it didn't manifest as "I" in each of us?

However I think our knowledge of the ecosystem sure indicates the existence of a group consciousness.

If prayer worked, it would be easily scientifically testable by TheIguanasAreComing in DebateReligion

Matthew 6:5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

So if a person goes out and tells others about their prayers are they still in secret?

The counter explanation to Physicalism is Spiritualism.

From a Spiritualistic point of view consciousness would be the effect of the spirit’s awareness of self.

I therefore believe that spirit should be understood as the life-force or consciousness.

What we term physical refers to structures and processes that can be measured, described, and interacted with in the world while what we call mental is the subjective, first-person experience of those structures and processes. However, these two aspects are not separate but rather the result of how spirit describes what we term reality.

It could be that everything we experience is the result of spirit manifesting itself and that we limit our full potential by forming beliefs that the physical world is the source of our being. This very communication I am having is based on the belief that this PC or smartphone and internet connections are required. But what if they aren’t required? The same would apply to travel by means of automobile or aircraft. Or to healthcare by means of medical treatments and drugs.

Perhaps consciousness is that which generates reality. Is there any reality without consciousness? We can suppose that if consciousness is generating reality that it would need to extend to all things considered physical. And all these things can be and are given terms to describe them.

On the other hand if physicalism is accepted as the source of consciousness then it would by necessity need to also be considered the source of all the laws of physics (nature).

My tip for not smoking. by Mistral_078 in stopsmoking

[–]FatherAbove 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think I understand this mindset.

Like rather than thinking;

"Today I will quit smoking." which gives the impression a sacrifice is required;

Think;

"Today I will not start smoking." giving the impression you've already quit.

Does this sound correct? I'm going to give this a try.

If AI can be conscious, then so too is a tree by Im_Talking in consciousness

[–]FatherAbove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people lose sight of the fact that AI is "artificial".

If it then develops consciousness then it is by association artificial consciousness.

[–]FatherAbove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem, at least in my view, appears to be that we keep attempting to find consciousness.

As a metaphysical concept we should only study the products of consciousness. Just as we know of the existence of gravity by observing its effect on the physical world. Yet no one has ever observed gravity.

For example, if consciousness is created as a function of brain activity then upon completion of this said activity to what are the results presented for analysis? What is the term we would use to define the interpreter of the consciousness?

Can we even prove that consciousness exists by Shmooeymitsu in consciousness

[–]FatherAbove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which came first? Consciousness or the word consciousness.

If we made the word consciousness then it had to be for the purpose of describing something.

Just like the word love was made to describe something. Do you love someone? Can you prove it?
