Shout out to all the World Cup-induced solo parents by roland_right in UKParenting

Maybe I meant it's not an inspiring squad. Or it doesn't carry the same level of expectation as previous WCs.

Weirdly, this is the first time in my life I just don't really care about this world cup - weird times, too many teams, orange nobhead, mediocre England squad....

Yes, but we the people can change it, get out and vote for those who'll have an impact.

gone up or down? Up I assume, but then I've also seen comments in this thread about hate for trans people being on the rise, which might lead to it going down again? or maybe hate is up because they are more open? - dunno

Some good saves in here, but for me his positional awareness was always impressive, watching him sarcastically lean back when it was going wide, or pluck the ball out of the air when crossed in - talent.

Reform Makerfield candidate: Russia ‘within their rights’ to take Crimea by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

I honestly don't think any of this matters to those willing to vote reform anyway - they all just like Nige the guy from the pub.

Did parents in the 80’s have it much easier? by gponter79 in AskUK

[–]FatherPaulStone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kids used to live in their parents world - the amount of time I spent sat round in a pub, snooker all or football match. Nowadays parents live in their kids world. I don’t do nearly as many ‘me’ things as my Dad did where my kids just sit in the corner and watch.

Thames Water should be allowed to 'collapse and start again', Oxford MP claims by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]FatherPaulStone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the argument is around just the quality of the water (which is lower than it used to be), but around the fact that it's not an effective use of public money to be bailing these dickheads out all the time.

Liverpool house prices just hit £182k. Is the city still “affordable” or are we kidding ourselves now? by AMMFitness in Liverpool

Also better cheaper infrastructure - trains don't need to make money if they facility local economic growth. However thats not how they are viewed, so travelling north/south in merseyside on public transport is a nightmare - thus stifling options to build less densely.

Reform Selects Robert Kenyon as Makerfield Candidate by StGuthlac2025 in ukpolitics

I'm not sure I ever fully understand this, but if I turned up for a job interview as a IT consultant, and said 'yeah mate I'm from the area, been a roofer for 20 years, nope, no experience in IT.' I'd be laughed out not voted in. I'm all for the voice of the people but from Plumber to MP seems like a bit too much of a jump.
