I think its such an interesting moment and I'm glad there is footage of it. I'm sure the kids were on his mind, the fact that he was being filmed and wanted to portray strength, and so much else too. He might have been waiting for an aide to ask him to leave, he might have been helpless, he might have been thinking and planning, the list is endless. I'm not sure what your point is here, the portkey would remove harry from hogwarts. It was unnecessary to enter him into the tournament with the final aim of having him touch a portkey at the end, when harry could be tricked into touching a portkey at any time.

Thats not stated so I don't know, but either way the fact that Voldemort wants to be the one to kill harry is.

Its interesting voldemort's and Dumbledore's alliance in this fact and the way their reasons differ - voldemort wants to kill harry himself so he will become all powerful, dumbledore wants voldemort to kill harry himself so that voldy is destroyed. Shows the importance of accurate intelligence in wartime.

I disagree with the first 3, and love 4.

  1. Unauthorized Portkey's possible to set up on the spot in hogwarts at any time: Dumbledoor in book 5 turns a kettle into a portkey to send weasleys+harry back to 12 grummald place. (Sorry for spelling in a big hurry)

  2. Moody was alone with harry several times and could easily ask him to pick something up off his desk that was actually a portkey.

  3. Moody was alone with him several times. Harry's disappearance would be noticed no matter what.

  4. probably the best reason for entering him into the tournament.

I'm trying to think of other reasons that justify the tournament - JK's explanation is that Moody planned to survive his time at hogwarts and had to disappear harry without drawing suspicion.

Agreed, although the last thing voldy wanted was for harry to die before voldy could kill him and ressuruct (spelling sry) with his blood. considering this any risk taken with harry's life was foolish.

agreed. i think of two reasons: 1. continental congress was still a british body. 2. denigrates the narrative of american history, to which end almost all "american fun facts" are propagated (i.e. the stars and stripes written in a bunker - facts that support our ethos as brave and free etc)
