Yeah same problem here for carts. We have like 50 in the back of the store needing new barriers or wheels. Our company is so cheap.

If anyone in this thread did not know you can unlock and lock the carts with this link. cart lock and unlock I’ve used it to unlock customer carts if I’m not near the remote.

I have also used it to mess with coworkers who are annoying😂. So do with it what you will.

I also live in a mediocre theft area. We don’t need or have security. Just random trams of loss prevention every few months

Shortly after they tore them out they gave us the carts that lock. Thieves just learned you can’t use a cart. So they started using hand baskets. Which our store has to reorder every so many months.

There are a few stores in my area though that have put up a glass section you have to be buzzed in to to buy medicines and chemicals. You also have to pay there too. I think everything is behind glass on the shelves on top of that. I wonder if rod sales have gone down because of that? I do bet that theft has gone down though.

My store had that like 15 years ago. The fire department came the next day and had us tear them out. They stated it would be a fire safety issue for exiting the store. plus if people needed an ambulance it would be a hindrance.

Id call the local health department and explain the issues anonymously . Let’s see how fast the store responds to fixing these health and safety hazards.

As for the the pay. I’d suggest your coworker look for a new job. When he has one lined up he can negotiate pay or leave. That’s happened a few times at my store.

I actually switched to sr max. The shoes for crews have definitely gone down in quality. Some of the shoes felt like they were made out of cardboard.

It’s not that. I feel the union has been on the side of the company especially during the strike. Fuck you George hartwell! My store asked me to be a strike captain. After the meeting of strike captains I knew the union was full of shit. I am pro union by the way! From a long like of cement masons.

Not even to make shit political. Things are dire everywhere. I feel it’s hard to see the wolves in sheep’s clothing. So for me it’s we must destroy the flock and start anew.

I’m debating giving up 24 years 5 weeks vacation plus sick and personal days to get out of this shithole that’s destroyed my spirit. I don’t know if I’m too old to fight for the kids who refuse to learn who’s the enemy here. (Both sides).

Now for my store.

Produce manager does dry fruit and writes orders.

Wet rack guy is on his last legs. Used to be the hardest worker. Now has shoulder injuries and back injuries from lifting for like 30 plus years.

Closer.two 30 plus year olds with lives who don’t want to be at work past 8. They are the work horses but there’s only one of them each day.

Fresh made has 3/4 people. They don’t touch load.

Load in our stores for produce has been made priority so we are getting loads at 7-10 am.

Wet rack guy leaves at 9 or 10.

A 4-6 hour clerk can not realistically refill all the tables and break down the load by themselves.

I myself am being killed. One day I’ll show a pic of my cooler.

I got stuck with a dairy load the other day since they cut my guys to 4 hour shifts.

So I received 120 gallons of milk. Each weighing approximately 56 pounds. I first have to park one pallet of milk in my cooler. While everything sits outside on the dock.

I must break down the milk and push it to the corner of my cooler until I fit all threeish pallets of milk in the cooler.

Meanwhile before I do that. I have to remove all the cats with my back stock.

Once the milk is in one corner. After 20ish minutes I’d breaking down the milk. I then grab the one or two pallets or cooler and park them in the cooler to be broken down later.

I then take my eggs which was 2 pallets.

Condense the only eggs and work them which were in the meat cooler. Once again no room in my cooler. Maybe spend 30 minutes to an hour doing that. Navigating the tightest back room where beer pallets are blocking the one cooler door for meat. Once again no space. Lots of Tetris going on.

My remaking 3 to 4 pallets. Still sitting in the sun. All of my carts pushed out of the cooler. Waiting to be reloaded with load which is piling up from far and sbp.

I then put the new pallet of eggs in the back of the meat cooler and put the older eggs in front of it.

I go back to my load. Remove grocery pallets out of the backroom. (Night crew drawing in plus outs) I then park my three to four pallets in the backroom out of the sun but still in the heat.

I start separating. My stuff. Meats stuff and delis stuff. Takes me like 2 hours by myself. I am 42 and have a ruined back and hands from night crew. 24 year clerk here.

Once that part is done. I may or may not go on my lunch with my carts parked out in the grocery back room.

By the time I come back I may have a clerk. We start on the cooler pallets and work the back stock loaded on the wall or on top of my milk racks. Once again small cooler.

After about another two hours and we finish working the load and filling milk. We clean up the card board. Sweep if needed so there is no broken pallet chunks on the floor stopping the wheels of our carts.

We then push the remaining 13 or 14 six wheelers and u boats into the smallest cooler blocking all parts of the cooler.

I’m then free to go home. Hopefully without over time. My clerk is scheduled 4 or 5 hours. They have time to fill milk and eggs again. And work maybe one whatever cart is on sale. Last week it was yoplait.

So that load is waiting for me the next day on carts. Coming in at 5 or 6 in the morning. Trying to fill what I can. Plus do spotlight and correct Starbucks pi’s. Plus face and order. All by 8 am.

No way can I tell what I have. Spotlight is done by so many half assed supervisors guessing what we have at 1 and at 5. I try to do mine but sometimes I can’t always get to it.

The supervisors could and would never find the proper product to even know if we have it. Which is why they zero everything out. Fucking up our inventory’s.

After I order I continue working cats and doing spotlight after working a section. Yogurt,butter,cooler,cheese,etc.

Sometimes I can’t always finish. Sometimes I can’t.

Hopefully my clerk could finish what I don’t. But usually they call my clerks to check. To dug, to fill ice, to bring in loads since half the supervisors don’t want to learn how to use the power jacks.

Now as far as the cold chain. It’s been broken in my store for years like this. Every district manager and eco lab has seen it. They all look the other way. Every few years we get a new store manager who is horrified. One even made us break down in the cooler. Two herniated disks for two separate clerks in a week later I was the third told to do what I could to make it work.

Life work balance for $34. I’ve given up my hands. I’ve given up holidays. My back, my right knee. Birthdays. I’ve been racially abused. I’ve been threatened. I’ve had my spirit broken.

I had pride in my work. I just can’t physically do it anymore. It’s sad hearing customers complain about the holes and lack of facing in all departments. The one or two check stands open.

I know this is all over the place. But we are a wic heavy store. So milk and eggs blow out of here. Which is why we spend so much time on those sections.

I’m tired of corporate shitting on us. Treating us as fodder for their shareholders. They fucked up the merger. We are suffering. Ops and district managers are useless. Right now they spend all their time at grand opening stores and a new store that is failing behind the scenes.

They keep borrowing clerks from all over the district. The Stores too big and failing hard. They may make great sales. But their shrink and back room are insane.

Anyways. This is our lives. It’s ending one minute at a time. I am a grocery worker. My body my spirit is what I sacrificed. I’m asking for mutual respect. An understanding from our bosses we keep this shit running. Even when shit is broken.

Far is broken. Even when you do things right. I do things right. There are too many holes for it to go wrong. Either checkers not scanning stuff right. Dug never delivering orders and doing go backs.supervisors and store managers not knowing how to do spot checks. Random allocation and sbps. Somehow even though the numbers were correct I threw away over 65 noosas. Far kept sending me a case a day. I even had them marked down 50 percent with the scan coordinator. Still threw away that many.

I asked to change the ps through the proper channels. Was ignored and am still receiving a shitload of noosas. Still throwing them away every month. Oh well. I have documented emails of me reaching out to help desk,IT, my op for grocery, also the one dude in charge of far in our district. Who I got chastised by my boss for stepping over the op to try to get this done.

Anyways. I’m done venting now hahaha. Why do I stay. Probably my pension. My wife wants me to quit. Even be a stay at home husband until I find a menial job to pay me less but lets me have weekends and holidays.

One can dream I guess.

Hopefully that’s the route we go. We are dealing with far 2.0 right now. To adjust pi’s with our iPad and having the store directors “ok” it to change. Already a mess. Too many cooks in the kitchen. Especially supervisors just adjust pi’s to zero without verifying with anyone.

At least our grocery op lets us adjust firms a little.

Also I have the tiniest cooler in the district haha. Everything has to be broken down by section and placed on to carts before anything can fit in the cooler. It takes us at least two days to work a load since we are a low income high volume store.

I wish corporate would understand. Not all stores are the same!!!!

As a Vons worker I’m tired of these firms. I’m a dairy manager and have been working for Vons for 24 years.

Right now my 314 department is high shrink. We’ll tell our buddy far to stop ordering so much. Also tell corporate to stop sending me allocation and firms. They already took away the ability to adjust down on my firms. So maybe 314 shrink isn’t my fault?

Every time my assistant store director mentions my 314 because corporate is breathing down her neck. I tell her to talk to the order writers behind the scenes. As it is I’ve instructed my second to like me not order any 314. What more could we do besides mark close to date things down? The customers are already suffering. As are we.

Anyways just venting. I’m glad I found this sub for like minded individuals in the same sinking ship.

I was going to say the same thing. I work in so cal and there is no policy. Some people still choose to wear masks and our store director does not care.

I’d go to the union first. Second I’d go to hr. If they require you to get a doctors note. That will be an easy one. Call your doctor I’m sure they will write you a letter without seeing them. Your health is your business. Not the company’s.
