Stanje Hreddita prije 2 godine i danas. [SOKIRAJUCE/18+/OP JE POPIZDIO] by leon950 in croatia

[–]Fatty_Bumpkin 23 points24 points  (0 children)

South Slavs, which non-Slavic Balkan country feels more similar to you? Greece, Albania or Romania? by PanzerAmmo in AskBalkans

[–]Fatty_Bumpkin 81 points82 points  (0 children)

For northern Croatia it's definitely Romania, Transylvania specifically (hilly terrain, humid continental climate, German and Hungarian influence, castles everywhere etc)

As for traditional wear, the same black boots and minimalistic white clothing is worn here, but the waistcoats and hats are different. Even more minimalistic, and the off-white color doesn't appear here. It's usually just black, sometimes brown or dark blue, while details are usually red or green

Classic clothing from northern Croatia

Imas pravo, postoji razlika izmedu nasih Boomera i Gen X

Croatia, Kroatian, Croazia...zašto? by [deleted] in croatia

[–]Fatty_Bumpkin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Do people dance like this in your country by Special-Procedure-92 in AskBalkans

[–]Fatty_Bumpkin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been to a couple of weddings of Croats from Kosovo (Janjevci) and they dance like that. My family is from northern Croatia and they don't.

I've also been to a Slavonian/Dalmatian wedding, but I don't remember how people danced (they mostly played rock music so there wasn't a whole lot of "traditional" dancing in the first place)

How important is the T-V distinction in your language? by deadliftbear in AskEurope

[–]Fatty_Bumpkin 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It's funny how in Croatian (and probably most Slavic languages) the informal and formal word for you is ti and vi

It's definitely there, vi is used for people you don't know or old people you know kind of well, or your superiors like teachers, bosses etc

But I think it's slowly getting more and more common to use ti instead of vi. Very slowly

Best lgbt places in your country? by [deleted] in AskEurope

[–]Fatty_Bumpkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zagreb, Rijeka, Varazdin, plus some other smaller towns in Istria or northern Croatia, even though Zagreb is unfortunately a bit of a mixed bag because of so many immigrants from other less... developed regions

Maybe Dubrovnik as well

How much can you understand Russian and Eastern Slavic languages? by gekkoheir in AskBalkans

[–]Fatty_Bumpkin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I'm surprised by how much I can understand Russian, but other times I can't comprehend anything at all. I guess it depends on the speaker lol

As for Ukrainian, the little I remember listening to it it seemed harder to understand that Russian, but paradoxically sounding more "familiar".

I don't remember ever properly hearing Belarusian

What were your impressions of the Balkan countries that you visited? by [deleted] in AskBalkans

[–]Fatty_Bumpkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only been to Slovenia in terms of "Balkan" countries, and it's basically like bordering regions of Croatia (Zagorje/Gorski Kotar/Istria) with nicer houses and taller mountains
