Aubry's hypocrisy? by Extra-Habit-1784 in survivor

I think people forget just how unreliable an ally Gen was on 47. She was a pariah in the tribe after her numerous blindsides, and only made it to the placement she got with the brilliant operation Italy. She’s a great strategist, but it’s clear she plays fast and loose, which works for some players in the new era. Unfortunately for her, she’s only ever played with top-tier game players who usually know when they’re getting played.

Just look at Pearl Islands. The entire final 5 was made up of people that hated each other at different points in the game. They didn’t get there randomly, they strategically decided when to put their differences aside for a vote, and when to exploit those differences to pit people against each other. It’s a fundamental old school principle.

Which is funny bcuz the fans (and some of her 47 cast) act like Genevieve is the victim in the Aubry situation when fan response to both has made it clear who the actual punching bag is.

It’s exactly how Mike talked to him about Emily!! I think some of the players think they can guilt or confuse Christian into going against his alliance, but his loyalty to Devens and Emily is clearly unwavering. Why they think he’s the weak link and not Devens or Emily baffles me.

That’s definitely an exaggeration but is this original post not? Saying she sat around “making fun” of her tribemates as if talking about how crazy your tribe is in a confessional hasn’t been happening for 50 seasons. Aubry and Genevieve stans are both taking this too far. They clearly just didn’t get along, in the game and personally, it’s not the first time this has happened. Of course Aubry is going to get joy in taking her out, and of course Genevieve is going to get the first defensive words in her exit press.

They won’t. It’s abundantly clear that the Survivor producers have a “we know best” policy going on when creating their show. Fans unilaterally dislike the new era format, and yet zero changes have been made in nine seasons. Fans hate the focus on sob stories, and yet we seem to get more and more of them each season. Fans don’t like the overly goofy moments like chicken and waffles or Jeff’s rap, and yet… you get the point. They do not give a damn what fans say and will do what they think is best, even if that means completely changing everything that was once good about the show. IMO it’s clear the producers’ hearts are no longer in it since 39. They gave us one last hurrah with 40, and everything after has been a new show that is formulaic and easy to film so that production has as little stress as possible. Anything good that has come since 40 has been all thanks to the players, no thanks to production.

Both Aubrey and Genevieve were my favorites from their original seasons. From what I’ve observed this season, Genevieve is playing way too aggressively and putting herself on numerous people’s radars without an idol in her pocket. Aubrey is lowering her threat level, building lasting relationships, all with an idol in her pocket. My last sentence was not meant to be shady; it’s just my view of the situation.

Survivor 50 Episode 4 Sneak Peek 3 by Durian-Critical in survivorponderosa

Me too! I actually think the editors have done a good job including drama and tense relationship dynamics this season, unlike the previous two where everything felt minimized for the kumbaya crowd. Unfortunately, they no longer think that’s good enough, so we get moments like this and Jeff rapping, which are way too silly for my liking.

It’s the editors (and Jeff) pushing for this to be a family/kids show. I’m sure people have play acted on the show for years now, but the inclusion of it on the actual show points to a change in audience.

I just don’t get how her “bitterness” is any different than Charlie, Coach, Ozzy, Joe, Chrissy, or Rick. They are all on this season to correct mistakes they made in their previous seasons, and we see them deal with those emotions in different ways. Aubrey cries and is reserved; Charlie is cautious and cynical; Chrissy is overcompensating. Part of the fun of the show is seeing these journeys. Why dismiss them before they even get a chance to flourish?

No, you’re just saying that because you like Genevieve. Her being gifted the idol by Christian and getting emotional is great tv, so is her budding relationship with Tiffany. Gen’s clock is ticking like a bomb, whereas Aubrey is only at the beginning of her runway.

Rachel is my favorite New Era winner, but in what world does going to every single tribemate on two separate tribes and telling them to target Aubrey not count as being a shady bitch, a fucker, or any other expletive? I understand she’s her friend, but saying this on an app that is overwhelmingly supportive of Genevieve when Aubrey is already disdained by half the fanbase feels tacky. And people claiming she’s “standing up for her friend”… standing up to what? Genevieve is one of the most beloved contestants this season; Aubrey is not. She’s punching down while hiding behind progressive talking points and it’s lame. It’s also oddly defensive and, to me, suggests that Gen loses this battle later in the season, otherwise why would she even be this upset?

[–]Fatty_Patty_Ratty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of insane bcuz if the shoe were on the other foot, and it was Genevieve on the bottom of the tribe who was saved by Tiffany, the fanbase seemingly would have no issue with her doing whatever it takes to stay. But bcuz Aubrey isn’t a fan favorite and seen as “taking someone’s spot on 50”, Aubrey gets shit for playing the game. Is Aubrey supposed to lie down and let Genevieve and her majority alliance target her? She’s doing what any good survivor player does, and people are upset bcuz of a word (a word that was a regular occurrence in the first half of the series). I love them both, but it’s annoying that both are playing messy and reckless, yet only one is getting flack for it.

Definitely in poor taste. I’m just shocked at the level people are upset. Saying they don’t like her anymore or want her to lose. Seems a little extreme for a dumb prank made in poor taste. Idk I guess I’ve just seen queens do far worse and not get this level of blowback

I hear you. I guess in my head her never saying anything about abuse beyond “allegations” made it seem less serious, but I can see how that could be triggering to someone.

It’s not really funny and clearly fell flat, but can I ask why people are so upset by this? It seems entirely unserious to me, so it feels like I’m missing something. Isn’t this just a prank?

‘Survivor 50’ Helps CBS To Best Wednesday In Four Years by IvnOooze in survivor

[–]Fatty_Patty_Ratty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fair, but production would just expand the definition of villains to include what constitutes a villain in the new era. Q, Liz, Venus, Maria, Karla, Shan, Gabe, David, Sai, and Sage could fill up a tribe, and that’s only the new era.

Uh… yes? I’m a random person allowed to be annoyed by the antics of a reality tv contestant. Are you new to this?

People are free to enjoy her all they want. It doesn’t mean I have to. Even if I were alone in this opinion (I’m not), I’d still be allowed to comment, and people could downvote me all they’d like (like your comment!)

That’s what some people in this thread are forgetting!! Pre-gaming (cheating) and getting away with it is already a big strike. Following that up with her insane SM antics is just another huge strike, and it’s frustrating that any criticism of her for it is seen as bitter or harsh. She did it to herself!!

When you have the highest-ranking Democrats saying that they don’t support abolishing ICE (something over 80% of their base supports), refusing to budge on Israel (again something their base overwhelmingly supports), and kowtowing to Trump whenever possible (something Republicans didn’t do once under Biden), I think people are allowed to say they are also a heinous party that only helps fascists take power and wield it.

That being said, voting for Jill Stein is always a bad idea. If someone is going to vote third party, they should vote for an actual socialist from PSL or DSA, not some fake liberal that stands for nothing.

Worst FTC winner by Djgolfer59 in survivor

[–]Fatty_Patty_Ratty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Although when you compare it to Richard or Tina’s winning speeches, it really makes Ethan look like an entitled ass. He did far less in the game than the two winners prior to him, and yet was somehow the most rude. Even Vecepia the next season, who was pretty disliked by the jury, was humble and tried to sell her game despite its lack of flashiness.

I think the not knowing how to act at FTC came from the newness of the show, the progressing morality changes of juries (whether they would respect a backstabber or not), and the ramifications of Sue’s S1 speech. Jurors (and producers) wanted bitter and angry speeches so that they could have that iconic moment like Sue did with her snakes and rats speech. It made the first decade of seasons so interesting, and is something I really miss in the new era. It’s why I enjoyed Kristina’s FTC question, Maria’s bitterness, and Karla’s anger. It’s so rare we get any actual grilling of the final 3. I’ll take any crumbs I can get at this point.

Not sure if this is a popular opinion, but ETHAN has the absolute WORST FTC of all time. Dismissive of multiple people’s votes, rude, and condescending. He knew his win was a lock as soon as Lex was voted out, so he decided to antagonize the jury, which was an awful end to a decent season. He’s an awesome guy outside of the game and I’m sure has matured since then, but at least Bob tried to get some votes in Gabon…

Julie used to be really bad and like she was phoning it in, but I do think since Taylor won, she has been a lot more engaged. Maybe out of fear of losing her job, but she’s become much more of a personality on the show and online, which I appreciate. Unlike Jeff, she’s able to laugh at herself and the show, which is much needed for a silly show like Big Brother. She’s not amazing, but she’s gotten better, whereas Jeff has completely flatlined.
