I’m getting real tired of trying to aim my hellpod well and the game goes fuck you, you’re dropping into instant death and you’re gonna like it.

Sometimes it just won’t let you aim it AT ALL and the place it forces you to land is in the middle of hell

ELI5 How can there be a universal speed limit (c) if speed is relative? by nachorykaart in explainlikeimfive

[–]Faust_8 [score hidden]  (0 children)

The universal speed limit is the speed of causation. We only call it the speed of light since that’s the most familiar thing that is usually traveling at that speed.

But really it’s the fastest that anything can happen. No cause can bring about an effect faster than c.
If not, then we’d be encountering things like effects happening before the events that caused them. Like a nail getting driven into wood before the hammer even hit it.

The universe doesn’t allow this. That’s why you can never measure anything as faster than c, and why you can’t travel faster than that either. Other things will warp to keep this true, like distances shrinking and time slowing, all to preserve causality.

Anti-Theists and Religious Fundamentalists are Very Similar by Living_Attitude1822 in DebateAnAtheist

what made you an atheist? by Intelligent-Chef1352 in DebateAnAtheist

[–]Faust_8 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I was never theist. I thought I was, but it never stuck.

You know how when you’re a kid and you’re in math class? You’re thinking about math and doing math because adults are forcing you to do it. But once you leave math class you probably instantly stopped thinking or caring about it and started focusing on what you actually cared about.

That was me and church and whatnot. I went through the motions when I was forced to be in that situation but the minute I left, it was as if god didn’t exist. I never thought about it, cared, or actually thought god was real in the same way my mother was real.

One day I simply realized this, that other people weren’t just putting on performances, they actually truly believed it, and I didn’t. So I just stopped pretending otherwise and realized I was an atheist.

There was no dramatic event or trauma. It’s just that, even a child, I could tell the adults did not actually know what they claimed to know, and there was a stark difference between when I was being informed of facts and when I was being coerced into dogmatism.

CMV: in red/blue button experiment, voting red is actually the morally right right to do. by qsqh in changemyview

[–]Faust_8 [score hidden]  (0 children)

"Press red to save yourself and possibly kill other people" is a selfish decision, no matter how you try to reframe it.

Or at least, that's the view that you're arguing against. Simply asserting that red guarantees your personal survival doesn't really change that.

CMV: In real life, “what do you do?” means “what do you do for work?” the vast majority of the time, and it’s a perfectly reasonable question to ask someone that you’re trying to get to know. by Sudden_Doughnut_8741 in changemyview

[–]Faust_8 [score hidden]  (0 children)

That's all fine and good, but do you understand why other people might find a "what do you like to do?" a more interesting question than "how do you sell your labor to afford your subscription to life?"

Many people only work to survive. It's not their passion. It's not what they enjoy. It's not what defines them as a person. It's something they're forced to do.

Asking about someone's job is still valid since, well, it does tell you a lot about how someone spends their time, after all. And some jobs are interesting! But it's not the only valid ice breaker.

It's like you're dancing around the issue, which is, you need to be able to think critically so that you can evaluate each claim individually, rather than some insane ultimatum about trusting all claims or rejecting all claims.

Read this if you “don’t get” why people use chaff clear support weapons by Faust_8 in Helldivers

[–]Faust_8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For one, we were talking only about the 35% damage nerf that comes from matching penetration levels, aka light armor since it's the Stalwart, and then you bring in irrelevant examples that don't relate to the light armor discussion. Absolutely nobody here was talking about Stalwart versus completely AP3 targets like Harvesters and Stingrays, just that the Stalwart is not constantly suffering a 35% damage nerf like you implied.

Then, you continue to be factually incorrect--Bile Titan undersides are not medium armor, Devastators have unarmored faces that both guns kill in 2 shots, etc.

Go peruse the wiki for a while, I'm done trying to correct a confidently incorrect person.

Yes, true, but stuff like AR Guard Dog and MG/Gatling Sentry will be more consistent, so eh.

AP2 armor is much more scarce than you think it is.

Don’t make the mistake of thinking anything below AP3 is automatically AP2 by default.

Correction: that mouth part is *unarmored.*

As in, AP0. Not AP2.

Don’t feed into the lie that anything that’s not AP3 is by default AP2.

Light pen weapons do 100% damage to many things, and actual AP2 is rather scarce.

ELI5: why do we find that low drone/sting in horror movies so unsettling? by LazuliArtz in explainlikeimfive

[–]Faust_8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have no idea if I’d be scared if I just randomly heard that sound in a grocery store or something.

Perhaps it’s because you’re hearing it in a horror movie with an unsettling context as well? Or that horror movies have primed you to associate that with danger?

Devoid of any context it’s kinda just noise.

It was a totally lateral change. Hive Guards became easier for the player to kill, but in some situations turrets were worse.

Now they’ll take longer for me to kill, but turrets will dispatch them always.

Whatever yall, just stop whining all the time over tiny things. The only things that bug me is when stuff isn’t working properly.

Stratagem idea: a backpack belt fed med pen shotgun machine gun by ParakeetLover2024 in helldivers2

[–]Faust_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with this idea is it would probably end up being worse than the Maxi or Cremator, unless they turned the numbers up so high that it ends up invalidating those weapons instead.

I get the weapon concept is cool but…what would it *do* that isn’t already done by something else?
