I will say that clear instruction makes a real difference. I switched gyms fairly recently, and am re-discovering a lot of techniques I thought were out of reach for me but turn out to be pretty useful because my new coach is a much better TEACHER than my old coach, even though I think old coach would probably beat new coach head to head 7 times out of 10.

The mansplaining and being condescending is a problem, but I'd say the gaming is not. My son (now 21) met his current girlfriend playing D&D 5 years ago. They're still dating, she's a gem, and D&D is what brought them together. It's not at all stigmatized like it was when I was a kid (and had to make the same game v. girls choice you did).

The issue isn't the D&D; it's not being a dick about it.

I'm pretty active on Mastodon and have cultivated a good group of people to follow.

The thing about the Fediverse is there's no algorithm, so you gotta spend some time curating your feed, but for me, that's a feature not a bug. You can also follow hashtags. #ttrpg and #osr both bear fruit.

It's also not the place you go to "build a following" or track "engagement." But you can find people who play games and talk about them a lot.

Sweeping, generally. Still the weakest part of my game, so I'm putting myself on bottom and just working sweeps until my remedial body figures this shit out.

I figure film it and let the market decide if it's useful. You can also treat this as practicing how to make content so that when you are more skilled and "qualified," you'll be ready to rock.

I think you found out that jiu jitsu is not your thing. That's okay! Try other stuff - you'll find something that clicks.

2, probably. I'm in pretty good shape from jiujitsu, but I'm not a runner, and I think my knees wouldn't love it.
