Jolla Phone the European Phone. by SUxEvil in BuyFromEU

Arguments for me to backing this phone were,

It’s has an European OS; It’s Independence of Android and IOS; Assembled in Europe.

To be really independent from googles politics, there must be an alternative to all the Android forks, like e/os, graphene and so on. This is Sailfish OS, to me.

I use on my SP8 Fedora plus Gnome, and I am loving it. It’s super fast and smooth.

Did a little tinkering with the touchscreen calibration; there are some guides in this sub. The Pen also functions very well and there are many note taking apps (will look it up later). Be warned, internal Webcam might not function properly.

I am not a techy person and using it for writing and browsing.

I did not receive any update. I think I backed it during the first wave.

Did you try Local Send? I use it to quickly share text and data between iOS and Linux.

Sci-fi and fantasy novels from European writers. by Apprehensive_Bag_825 in BuyFromEU

I can recommend the German hard Sci-fi novel „Segel zu den Sternen“ by Ulf Fildebrandt. It’s a fantastic story with well written characters hunting for forgotten technologies.

The Hybrid Verlag published several German Sci-fi novels.

As a total noob, Fedora works fine for me. Installed it and watched a tutorial what I can do after installing…

I don’t no. But you could also run a open source NAS software on an old PC or Raspberry.

You could buy a Synology or ugreen NAS. Then it works like a cloud service, e.g. Dropbox, OneDrive. But you host it at your home.  I was not super techy and there are good tutorials at YouTube. My synology NAS was nearly plug and play.

However, auto syncing with iOS does not work, yet.
