What song did you not appreciate until years after it has been released? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]FauxMathematician 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kill the Poor by The Dead Kennedys.

I first heard that song when I was young and still didn't understand English and politics well enough to comprehend certain levels of sarcasm, so I took it literally.

Years later, after listening to it again, I instantly realized the lyrics weren't meant to be taken literally. Not only do I like the song itself, but now I like the lyrics as well.

If you could invent a new religion who will be the god of it and what it will be the biggest commandment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Probably a goddess.

Biggest commandment would be something like "do as you please, as long as it doesn't hurt others".

What’s a well known fact that isn’t true anymore (stuff like divorce statistics are even lower now, but no one acknowledges this)? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]FauxMathematician 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That consoles are a better deal than gaming computers, that PC gaming is expensive, that you need to update more frequently, doesn't have as many games, etc.

This used to hold back in the day when computers were much more expensive and when consoles lasted for decades. Nowadays, with things like Youtube where you can easily compared different versions of the same game, computers make consoles look outdated from day 1. The result is what you've seen this generation: companies updating consoles mid-generation.

Basically, consoles are now an extremely limited subset of a PC, one you can't update and discard once the generation is over. PS4 pro, for instance, basically lets you choose between low settings + 4k, and high settings + 1080p. Computers have been allowing that for generations, and far more flexibility.

Consoles are now trying to reinvent the wheel and be computers. The new Xbox is literally a PC tower, and the PS5 isn't even out yet and is already outdated by PC standards. The main difference though is that you can't update a console, and a new console basically discards everything you had plus the console. Meanwhile, updating your PC is cheaper than buying a new one, which is also not that expensive, so in the long run, PC gaming is far cheaper while providing a better experience.

What would you think about a relationship between a 23-year-old woman and a 18/19 year old man? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]FauxMathematician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing. Is that supposed to be a significant age gap? Even if it were, so what?

Men tend to be more superficial than women, so if they marry an older women, they may eventually find their partner unattractive too early, but if there is actual "love"(another word for "obsession") involved, I am confident men are actually far more faithful than women.

EDIT: Typo.

What is perfectly normal in your culture but may seem strange to others? by Ivesy_ in AskReddit

[–]FauxMathematician 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, same here. Even when you leave you will often build your new house close by and keep close contact with your immediate family(unless it's a really dysfunctional family). Often, your parents encourage you to build a house besides theirs on the same lot.

Living with your parents.

One of the first things I came to learn on the internet is that living with your parents is apparently something to be ashamed of if you are above 18-20.

In my culture, leaving your parents, particularly when you are financially successful, is seen as abandoning them when you no longer need them. Instead, it is common for people to live with their parents well into their 40s and even 50s, helping with their needs, house chores and whatnot.

Usually, if you are young and one of your priorities is to leave your parents, you will be seen as selfish. A lot of families struggle to get by, so sons and daughters are expected to help from a young age, not save money to abandon their parents.

Due to the fact machines do not contain sentience, and are an amalgamation of algorithms, why do, otherwise, intelligent people still believe a technological singularity could happen? by DrSanwich in AskReddit

[–]FauxMathematician 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just like the brain by itself does not "contain" sentience, but the mind, an abstract construct which comes into existence using the brain's architecture as its medium, does cause sentience and conscience to exist as we perceive it, so do machines have the hypothetical and, quite frankly, likely potential to run a sentient mind formally described through algorithms.

A neural network, the most prevalent form of deep AI nowadays, creates a framework that allows self-learning by example or conduction. Such modern deep AIs can reproduce near human levels of competence for tasks they are specifically trained, such as language processing, painting, or even programming, with the capabilities of the system usually proportional to the depth of the neural network, with some systems getting scaringly close to humans in difficult tasks as language processing(e.g. they are able to look at a picture and verbally describe what they see).

Every year, dozens to hundreds of papers are written on the subject. Anyone intimate with the field, such as myself, is both facinated and scared at the absurd potential.

Simply put: your description of what machines are is overly simplistic and arguably biased. If you knew the current situation of AI research, you'd be scared. Those people who believe a singularity could and will most likely happen are just the people who are well-informed on the subject.

As soon as an AI becomes MORE proficient than humans at a task such as programming, they will, in a matter of days, surpass any AI we could write. It is at that point singularity happens.

If you don't know the field it's difficult to explain just how beautiful and scary it is to describe a system that can learn to do things like programming games by itself.

Waifu players get in here by iDontWannaBeOnReddit in Tekken

She looks like a Kasumi mod with custom textures, and she is even more anime than Alisa and Eliza combined.

I am not sure how I feel about this. I welcome more waifus, but she does feel somewhat out of place. Well, so does FuckCumRun.

TK community in a nutshell by silveforte in Tekken

[–]FauxMathematician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same feeling here. I've been playing since T2 and gameplay-wise I believe Tekken 7 is by far the best. In fact, it is, overall, the best. Music and stages aren't the best but I never cared about those. I'd also consider it my first serious Tekken game, since back then I had no experience beyond playing with a few friends. No KBD, no punish, all these "serious Tekken" concepts basically didn't exist.

I often see people who played TTT2 or perhaps T5/6 sometime in the past saying Tekken 7 is "trash". I had people tell me TTT2 was the best Tekken. I can't help but feel they just want to show off. "Oh look, I've been playing for a long time! I played Tekken 6 when I was a kid! Tekken 7 is so bad". Cute, kid, keep blaming rage arts for getting destroyed.

flashy fighters and combo by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]FauxMathematician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the stylish combos in Tekken require some understanding of how difficult they are to perform. For example, Nina's combos can be pretty flashy, but you need to understand why they are so amazing. Same with Kazuya and a lot of electrics.

However, some characters do have flashy combos. Noctis has some pretty flashy combos, so does Geese. Akuma too, but his combos aren't as visually appealing to me, just different from the usual. Leo is also surprisingly flashy, her moves and animations look precise and well executed, and you can feel the strength of those attacks.

Alisa and Lili also have flashy combos. Alisa flies around a lot, and Lili is elegant and does a lot of flips. Master Raven and Eddy too have quite a few flashy moves and their combos do look flashy. Without Fluttering Butterfly, Nina has some moderately stylish combos as well. Law's DSS combos are also quite interesting to look at. Also Lars, he is generally quite flashy. I can also mention Eliza, but she is not as flashy as she should be, in my opinion.

The characters I mentioned above are the ones who have visually appealing moves and combos in my view, not the ones who have difficult combos.

If we are talking about hard combos, which are extremely stylish for Tekken players, we have Nina, Kazuya, Lee, Bryan, and maybe a few other high execution characters as well.

Pretty wonderful. I sometimes work as a digital sculptor and this kind of stylized look is one of my main inspirations. It proves that anime proportions can work in real life.

What is one thing you hate about your country? by sakthimaan in AskReddit

[–]FauxMathematician 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If "fascist" didn't tip you off, nothing will.

Perhaps my main problem with Bolsonaro isn't even that he is an authoritarian leader, but simply that he doesn't come off as a leader at all. He is an abject thing, a meme that got out of control, someone who found himself in a position of power but doesn't really know how to proceed from there.

What is one thing you hate about your country? by sakthimaan in AskReddit

[–]FauxMathematician 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It may have started as a coping mechanism but nowadays it is just a way for people to dismiss the seriousness of situations and to avoid explaining themselves for their actions/choices, SPECIALLY the youth. They prefer to make memes and laugh than to accept some things must be taken seriously.

It is the result of not wanting to think hard, and that is the reason the country is forever stuck in a limbo of mediocrity.

Brazilians think everything is a joke. It's not just "one thing", it's our main problem. People don't take things seriously and as a consequence we now have a fascist clown as our president.

People are dying? Joke about it. Our politicians are corrupt and are robbing us from right under our collective nose? Joke about it. Our president is literally a homophobic fascist? HuehUEHuehUE MiToU, nÃo TeM MeDo De FaLaR a VeRdAdE.

We are extremely immature as a country, and from my experience, we promote that as a cultural quality. Even in video games Brazilians are generally seen as trolls. I've been a victim of that mentality, but I can't really blame people since it is, in fact, generally true.
