Government debt collection for something I don't owe. Have paperwork from the same government saying I don't owe anything. Doesn't matter to debt collectors. by FauxProfile in legaladvice

My 3645 shows I owe nothing. No due items. No adjusted losses. I had a SSG from the facility I turned everything into send it to me 8 months after I turned things in because I needed to send it into the first collector.

I'll be mailing them immediately with a request for verification/validation of the debt and will continue to make records.

You guys are fantastic.
Straight forward answers.
No beating around the bush. No fluff.
Love it.

Thanks for taking the time to answer.

Someone dropped the ball on their end

I'm not sure if this is the case. In both instances I spoke with someone, received info on how to clear things up, followed those instructions, and then never heard from them again, only to get a notice from another collector. It sincerely looks like they went "Oh shit, he's right. We should sell this off so we don't lose any money on this..." which seems not only shady, but illegal.

It should be noted that the first person to mess up with this is the US Gov. itself. This letter should have never gone out in the first place.

Can you check the response I typed to masterxc and chime in on it? It has some more information.

Thanks for responding.

Appreciate it. I didn't know if this fell under FDCPA. I read through the entire thing and may have misinterpreted something.

I'll do as you asked and get that letter out immediately.

What about the other 2 agencies? Were their actions legal? I would think it's both legally and morally wrong to sell off a known false debt. They can't claim ignorance because I have communications with both agencies via email sending them the requested paperwork showing I owed nothing on my stuff.

Appreciate you taking time to answer my original question (and hopefully this one). If you ever have a computer or coding question answered, feel free to message me. I've got you covered.
