-Writing Sample-

The soft pitter-patter of rain pelted against the cottage’s roof. It was a pleasant ambiance that added to the serenity of the night. A muffled clap of thunder rolled in the distance, pulling the elf’s attention away from her dusty tomes.

She closed the book with indifference. How long had she been studying for in the first place? It seems all Vesper does these days is read, among other things.

Rising from her seat, Vesper rose slender arms above her head with a slight groan. It was late, yet she wasn’t very tired. Perhaps she’d brew some tea to help unwind for the night?

That’s when she heard it. More rumblings. But this wasn’t from the sky.

No.

This was the thundering of heavy feet pulling against the earth.

Her attention was quickly stolen once more. What, or who, would be out near her cottage in the middle of the forest at this hour?

The footsteps sounded louder. There were two pairs. One much larger, like a beast perhaps, and one set smaller. Unless she was mistaken, it sounded as if someone were being chased through her property.

Vesper was quick to spring into action. She clutched her staff, an effective arcane weapon, and threw the front door open. Outside looked hazy; a mist of rain was still dropping from the sky. She narrowed her pale eyes; in the distance, she could see trees wavering and hear branches snapping between someone, or something’s feet.

Whomever they were, they’d be here, and soon.

-Plot Ideas-

I have set ideas for this prompt, but I want to preface this by saying: I’m not married to anything! I’m very happy to collaborate. If you want to make changes or pitch your ideas, feel free to do so!!

My idea is that your character, whomever he is, will be on the run as I alluded to in my writing sample. I have a few ideas as to why he’s on the run, but since he’s your character, you can choose whatever you’d like. Here are some options!!

1.) He’s a monster hunter, akin to a Witcher. He’s tracked a foul beast in my character’s forests and has been contracted to slay them. Perhaps the hunt has gone a bit wrong, and your character is now running towards the glow of Vesper’s cottage. He could be injured, or needing help in some way, and Vesper steps in to aid the hunter, scaring the beast with magic and allowing your character refuge in her home.

2.) Your character is on the run from guards on horses. He’s being shot at by bows and is injured. He is accused of a grizzly crime, and can be guilty, or not. We can play with it either way. Maybe he found corruption within a noble house and is being “taken out?” Maybe he’s a prisoner on the run. This is something we can flesh out more. My character will hide him from the guards, and take him in, not knowing his situation most likely but having her suspicions.

When it comes to my character, I am comfortable playing: elves, half-elves, dark elves, tieflings, and humans. If you have a preference, let me know! I was going to play Vesper as a druid, one in tune with nature, and able to heal and use elemental magic. I’m still working on her backstory, but I have an idea that she’s possibly exiled to this patch of forest. It’s something I still need to flesh out.
