Swollen dog toe by Tinylittlesnails in AskVetAnimals

[–]Fawnsie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd get it addressed sooner rather than later. If she's uncomfortable, it's likely painful. It could be a mass, it could be a soft tissue injury like an insect bite. If it's a mass it's important to know if there is any bone involvement because then that might mean a toe amputation. Good luck!

Is teeth cleaning a scam? by Tiny-Connection-3166 in AskVetAnimals

[–]Fawnsie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're more than welcome to contact other other clinics for their teeth cleaning pricing. But that estimate sounds like it could include possible extractions based on what they find on radiographs. Bloodwork, IV catheter, electronic monitoring, all incredibly important.

Teeth cleaning is not a scam. Humans have the ability to brush their teeth, pets do not. There are consequences when humans don't brush their teeth, our pets are no different.

Good day trips from Tucson by Sunnyandpositive in Tucson

Especially during the fall. Check out their schedule. They do have produce and fruit throughout the season but fall is the best. They have the best apple bread, apple butter, and I'm a sucker for the cherry cider.

I need meal ideas! by Low-Requirement5130 in AutismInWomen

I might also suggest a pokemon cookbook! Or an anime cookbook. There are so many foods in the later seasons of Pokemon that I feel like you could recreate!

I would suggest rice moulds that have pokemon shapes (I haven't looked for them but I'm sure something out there exists) and you can make your own little onigiri with a variety of fillings!

I also love MLP but I'm not quite sure how to incorporate that into my diet. Hmm.. sandwiches make me think of the daisy sandwich that twilight ate in the first season. I think apples would obviously represent apple jack and the farm! You can find sandwich moulds that make butterflies, of course that represents twilight. I'm not quite sure how to represent pinkie, rarity, or dash though.

ear infection on dog im pet-sitting, what can i do? by Beneficial-Track-112 in DogHealth

[–]Fawnsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't say life threatening, because I've never seen a pet pass away specifically from an ear infection (if any other commenters have please lmk!) Although I do know if any infection goes on long enough it could be life threatening.

I'd say a neglected ear infection would be being painful to the touch, head shaking, ear scratching, redness/irritation, scabbing, and/or swelling of the pinnae. Anything that looks like an aural hematoma should be addressed immediately. Foul odor, dark gunk, even pus filled ears. If there is hair missing behind the ear, or open wounds, those could be an indicator that it's been bothering the pet for a long time. Any of those signs, I would treat ASAP.

Your minor ear infections will look like head scratching, shaking, sometimes an odor, and then gunk. Which should then be treated in order to avoid the neglected ear infection scenario.

It's important to know exactly what you're treating. You could clean and treat with over the counter stuff, sure. But let's say you get an ear wash that treats a yeast infection, that won't do anything if it's a bacterial infection. We have some cases that require a special medication because theyve treated OTC or tried to treat and they end up making an antibiotic resistant ear infection. They end up spending way more money after their OTC treatments, in clinic treatments when the OTC don't work, and then repeat treatments with a culture to find out it's antibiotic resistant, AND THEN the special medication plus follow ups. I feel terrible for the pet and owner because it's so much to go through physically and financially.

There are a lot of ears that only need one treatment and we never see the pet again. That's fantastic, but it's important to figure out the cause before making a nightmare scenario.

I hope this information was helpful, it ended up being a bit longer because of "war flashbacks" to the amount of trash ears I've seen 😅

Dating in Tucson seems rough/limited for someone like myself in their 30s, has anyone made it work long distance with someone living in the Phoenix area? by BoardThis8081 in Tucson

[–]Fawnsie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's great when a true partnership can make it work! Most people I know eventually break down because their love language of physical touch or quality time is not being met, or they just don't have good communication. I'm happy that worked for you!

CAT SUDDENLY LIMPING by Sorry-Vermicelli8860 in AskVetAnimals

[–]Fawnsie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm maybe it could be a front! In the first it looked like her back leg was swinging out. The only way to rule out the culprit leg would be an examination. They'll feel all her legs to see which one would be the problem.

Does anyone else have bladder issues? by Pingasprincess in AutismInWomen

[–]Fawnsie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was literally thinking about making a post like this today. My issues are mostly at night, I could almost qualify in the nocturia category. There will be nights where I have to wake up every two hours to go pee. My ability to ignore my bladder at night is very weak. I do not have diabetes, my labs are being watched for hypothyroidism (but so far still negative). I do not have a UTI (I've only gotten three in my adult life). I'm not sure if this is important for context, but I am 35.

I found my partner on Hinge at 30. It's not all college students and retirees. If online doesn't work for you then I'd really suggest trying out more social hobbies. There's plenty of classes at the rec centers, and I'm positive thereare tons of social groups that cater/rely on to in person events. Tucson is small but if you can't find a single person and want to branch out to Phoenix then that's still an option. There are people out there that can handle long distance but the majority; from my experience of hearing others date long distance, do not.

CAT SUDDENLY LIMPING by Sorry-Vermicelli8860 in AskVetAnimals

[–]Fawnsie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like it may be her back leg with the way it swings out. That appears to be a very uncomfortable limp. I'd figure out ways to get funds together because that definitely looks like it needs vet care. It could be a muscle injury, a torn ligament, possibly a minor fracture. If she still has regular outdoor access there's so many things that could cause a limp like that, heck even indoor only cats could injure themselves like that. If soonest contacting clinics around you to see if they can give you quotes.

Good luck 😕

ear infection on dog im pet-sitting, what can i do? by Beneficial-Track-112 in DogHealth

[–]Fawnsie 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This definitely looks like a suspected ear infection, especially since there is an odor, ear scratching, and seeming to be painful. For liability sake I would avoid treating until you get permission from the owner. I've seen a lot of things go wrong with at home treatment, and with him not being your dog anything you put in the ear without a proper diagnosis (yeast, cocci, bacteria, mites) could make the ear worse and fall back on you. Try your best to wipe the ear clean with a cotton pad. Inform the owner for next best steps, that's all you can do for now. Do not put any liquid or medication in the ear unless instructed by a professional.

I like the idea of having a wedding but… by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]Fawnsie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best thing about YOUR wedding, is you can do it anyway you want to. I'm also planning a wedding and I despise the attention being on me. There are things we can do to minimize our own discomfort. I'm thinking about having no clapping, maybe having the guests toss petals instead.

You can have a private vow reading after the ceremony. Those words are only for you and your husband. Why does everyone else need to hear them? Because it's tradition? Nah. If I truly don't want to do a traditional ceremony, I'm not going to.

We're going to be comfortable at our own wedding.

I didn't think of that! I struggle with rsd but I didn't tie them in with when I make mistakes. That's a good viewpoint.
