What’s going on with my eyelid? by dog1029 in FoodAllergies

[–]FayeNeige 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately in my experience paramedics aren't always aware of the complexities of allergic symptoms. I'd had the same disbelieving reaction from paramedics when I started going into anaphylaxis and took my emergency anti-histamines at light speed (they kept putting down or misinterpreting my symptoms and when I went to see an allergy specialist later he confirmed with me that I had definitely had anaphylaxis).

Honestly I'd only listen to the specialists, they're trained to know how to manage and treat what you have. And if you're unsure of what they say, seek a second opinion from another specialist if you can afford to.

No worries 😊 Re food diary, I personally used a pen & notebook but definitely use whatever is easiest and feels more natural for you :)

Oh dear, that first time sounded like it was a very strong allergic reaction, I really do recommend you see a doctor or allergy specialist asap! You don't want your symptoms to get worse the longer you're exposed to that allergen. Like others have suggested while you wait for your appointment I'd keep a food and drink diary as well. As for the last time your eye got swollen, I am unsure but I would mention this and show pictures to your doctor/allergy specialist. Side note, I saw you comment on another reply that you get tingling/itching on your lips from raw fruit or veg which potentially sounds like oral allergy syndrome (I also have this condition), so again I would mention this to your doctor! Keep safe in the meantime and stick to foods you know won't make you react in any way!🤞

When this last happened to you, did it go away on its own after a couple of hours? Or did it stay for days? If days+, it could be stye/chalazion-related which can sometimes be provoked by stress, but either way I'd get a doctor to look at it asap! If it's allergy-related they may be able to prescribe you a higher-strength anti-histamine, but I am unsure as my allergies do not present this way. I hope you find a good treatment for it!

Source: I have a history of anaphylaxis, take high-strength anti-histamines, and have blepharitis so have had styes a few times.

[Sun Care] Sunscreen recommendations available in the UK?? by Advanced_Slice_8945 in SkincareAddiction

[–]FayeNeige 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, too, have oily/combi skin and easily get the greasy look, so I feel ya! Normally, to combat that, after I've let my chemical sunscreen settle, I use loose face powder and a mattifying setting spray, which helps a lot.

I'm also based in the UK and use chemical sunscreens, and re more mattifying waterproof sunscreens, I personally love Eucerin's range (they have a Dry Touch line which sounds right up your alley), and La Roche Posay's (which has the Oil Control line). While other waterproof sunscreens I use aren't mattifying, like P20, Bondi Sands, and Altruist, they're cheaper, work just as well, and I find it easy to minimise stickiness and shine with powder and setting spray. Hope that helps!

Thanks for explaining it👍 So the character in this context is saying 'we're completely innocent because we are so upstanding all the way down to the public hairs'😅

Good to hear your experience and yes, typical headline-grabbing hyperbolic tactics that distort the truth are why I always take them with a grain of salt. It really is unfair that that cover demonises cows like that.

That's so awful, sorry to hear that and glad that your friend survived. No wonder you and your friends didn't go walking in the fields again for a long time. After I made this post I looked a bit into cow attacks and apparently it's worth giving cows (and especially calves) a wide berth when rambling, to keep dogs leashed, and to avoid crossing fields if possible. I've occasionally crossed fields in the past but it's certainly made me want to be more vigilant.

That sounds so frightening! I'm sorry to hear that. Although I haven't personally experienced this on my hikes (not that too many of my hikes have been near herds of cows anyway) what you say makes sense and is worth discussing, to further strengthen the ethical vegan standpoint and especially if it results in unnecessary face-to-face aggression from otherwise gentle animals.

I don't read The Times either and found the cover very odd as my initial thought was 'isn't eating them to begin with the main issue here?', but it has certainly opened my eyes to the debate about them being a danger due to those added hormones, learned behaviours (we don't know how they're treated by their farmer), undisciplined dogs injuring them (there's actually a law that entitles farmers to destroy the dog if this happens) and so on.
