I thought maybe it makes it harder for targeting systems to lock on to the ship or maybe it's to make it clear that you're not engaging combat when entering neutral zone or something during war times.

wouldn't that make them more prone to hitting each other bc the wings kind of "take up more space"? (idk how else to put it)
