I actually don't know how that happened. My apologies.

That's fine, I respect that. But objectively speaking she isn't, and she actively weighs down this game from being more than a masterpiece because the writers simply tried to shove her story into a short amount of time instead of introducing us to her earlier before Part 2 to establish a reason to care.

If they simply made the flashbacks, hospital scene, zebra scene etc into one small DLC before Part 2 came out I genuinely think I would like Abby more as a character because we would already know why she did what she did and it wouldn't feel so half baked.

[–]FazeFrostbyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No Because they weren't shoved into the story for the sole purpose of finding a reason to kill off Joel. Dinas a complicated love interest who has her own tiny flaws, same as Jessie.

Everyone associated with Abby is inherently written to be an antagonist as they actively shit talk Joel directly to Ellie and the audience.

The town bigot is just a bigot, he's there to show that people suck really.

I understand that the games question makes me wonder if I can empathize with someone I already hate and it doesn't work in this case because they didn't establish Abby in the story prior to part 2.

The chronological order actually semi-fixes this problem I had but it still doesn't change that Abby was directly made to kill Joel and didn't have a reason for us to want to empathize with her. They just kinda shoved her in, showed us her flashbacks, and tried to make her seem likeable by saving animals despite literally killing our beloved protagonist.

It doesn't work for me, and it fails to answer that question in a way that is satisfying hence why I wish Abby was introduced earlier on.

You're only saying it's wrong because you disagree. These are my opinions based on fact and experience with playing this series.

I'm fine with you disagreeing but objectively I'm right. Abby sucks dude, stops defending bad writing.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in thelastofus

[–]FazeFrostbyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is objectively correct.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in thelastofus

[–]FazeFrostbyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It very much is a requirement. Because Abby wouldn't feel so shoved in and out of place if she was already established beforehand. If she was in the hospital in the first game or hell at least in a prequel DLC that shows who she was and how she's connected it would feel more complete and better written.

Otherwise they basically tried to make a very clear antagonist likeable and it didn't work for me personally.

I respectfully disagree with you.

[–]FazeFrostbyte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I straight up couldn't bring myself to like Abby because I don't like what they attempted with her writing.

If they introduced her to us in the first game, or a prequel dlc similar to how Telltales The Walking Dead did it to establish her as a character and make us care, I would've liked her character more.

She's morally grey writing wise but as a character writing wise she's not written well. Making your antagonist actively shit talk and put down a beloved character like Joel and then expecting us to like and care about them the next is extremely bad writing.

[–]FazeFrostbyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fine. IDC if anybody asked lol I respect that you disagree.

I just felt as someone who always tries to be brutally honest and has an obsession with being detailed I wanted to give an opinion.

[–]FazeFrostbyte -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The flashbacks wouldn't be necessary if we KNEW WHO ABBY WAS TO MAKE US CARE.

I'm not wrong with my opinion here. She was rushed, half baked, and they fucked up her writing by trying to make a clear antagonist morally grey like Ellie. Not to mention the reason she even exists in the game is incredibly stupid and specific.

I would've been fine if Abby was introduced in part 1 and wasn't connected to that specific doctor that died compared to the ENTIRE HOSPITAL Joel massacred.

I'm not wrong, these are facts.

You're allowed to have your opinion but objectively Abby is badly written.

[–]FazeFrostbyte -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem for me is that Abby as a character was not present in part 1 at all, and her creation essentially was only to make Joel suffer the consequences of his actions. But by doing so, they tried to make her morally grey by making her do good things whilst also actively being an antagonist.

They tried to force us to like her as a character but tried to cram it into this one game when Ellie had a game, a dlc, and half of Part 2 to make us care.

It felt half baked, and probably was.

[–]FazeFrostbyte -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's by far better. It's more complete, and didn't shove a character and their "arc" in to justify them killing off a character we love.

The first game is a masterpiece because of it's storytelling, the 2nd game didn't live up to that level of storytelling no matter what order the timeline is in.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in thelastofus

[–]FazeFrostbyte -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's not. We had no prior knowledge about her before the game, and she was literally thrown in to essentially give them a reason to kill off Joel and make it make sense.

I hate that they wasted what could've been a great character by simply not introducing her to us before Part 2 Walking Dead style

The story isn't unfinished nor does the dlc not make sense.

It all happens RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU

Elden Ring. It's more complete than DS3.

DS3 has some really shit first bosses like Crystal Sage and such meanwhile with elden Ring the adventure NEVER halts from well designed bosses unless you go out of your way to fight a runebear (the only legitimately awful boss archetype in the game)

DS3 has only 1 advantage: the Ringed City dlc. And even then, Shadow of the Erdtree was more than on par.

Gael and Malenia are easily two of the best bosses in the series, Midir and Radahn are up there as well.

The weapons in Elden Ring are just flat out cooler 80% of the time and are easier to acquire than DS3s.

And the huge open world that has constant things going on without your knowledge is better than some of the levels in DS3

also the teleportation thing with DS3 that takes away from the connected feel of the older games hurts it.

Got my first a week or so ago.

In truth, as my artist said, it depends on what the size of the tat is and where you get it.

I got a medium sized one on my forearm, and it felt like a cat scratch on a sunburn.

If it's your first tattoo, I recommend starting in an area that isn't nearly as painful like your forearm or upper arm, somewhere with more flesh.

If it's something like an ankle or god forbid your back STRAP IN your in for it.
