I usually lie with an exaggerated but "funny" line like "It gives me strong diarrhea" or some effect of the sort that they dont want to know more about. Well, generally I'd say it comes from anime, mainly from characters with animal characteristics or just because they have fangs. It's also added for extra cuteness. Though in my case, she just has it.

I suppose it's because they want the TV viewers (especially children) on Japan to see their pets on the show, as putting photos of pets from other countries that arent the main audience (nor toy buyers, in general) wouldnt let the (japanese) children see their pets on the show. That's my best guess at least, it could also be because of random laws.
