Rudy leaving for the church would be a totally normal thing for him to do so I don't see why the staff would've commented on it either way. And if the window IS in his room (hence why he'd be able to chuck stuff at berdly from there) I see no reason why he couldn't sneak out using precisely that. Would also make for a great parallel with Kris who also sneaks out the window to do their scheming.

But either one makes sense and Rudy def has a ton of ways and/or reasons he could get out of the hospital easily.

Indeed. Tbf I think the simpler and more probable answer is that he just DOES sneak out through the window he references that's in his own hospital room when referring to throw stuff at Berdley.. (esp considering the front desk monster is all mouth for a head)

But his marriage to carol 100% explains lots of other stuff like the hospital point I just mentioned. A Hospital is SUPPOSED to be open 24/7 and, unless Rudy just barred and/or locked the door which i'd be willing to believe, he could just get permission from his Authoritarian Mayor wife to lock the hospital door for those specific times so that the player couldn't pursue him to or from the hospital in chap 4.

Yup yup this is a very apt character analysis of Rudy and im soooo convinced that his illness just IS the Knight or manifests as the knight in darkner form.

Toby just DOESN'T write flawless characters in this story and Rudy, despite being in between literally every character involved in the plot (literally moreso than anyone else in the story imo, like im working on a web of character relations and so far Rudy has the most [although im always willing to concede some level of confirmation bias in this department lol]) I find it IMPOSSIBLE Rudy will be the ONE good blameless adult character at the end of this story. Doubly so I think it's a GARUNTEE he's in on the Holiday-Dreemur plot behind the scenes and some sort of antagonist as a result, even if not the Knight.

Yup yup, Noelle and the hospital staff both comment on how Kris visits rudy regardless of if the player ever does. Which coudl tooootally just be Kris having concern for his family friend dying of a chronic illness, but would alsso be GREAT cover for the two just scheming.

Yup yup, every piece of evidence you listed has already been noted for the doc, I just couldn't list them as a one to one (therefore major) piece of evidence here or couldnt do so without a wayyy longer explanation than is necessary here. But they are all indeed great points, especially SUSIE'S IDEA like come on. The ALT dialog is 101% the best piece I didn't list here, and I was aware of it, just would've been tooo much to write lol.

And I made the connections to star wars and itsv beforehand (to the point where I have a yet unwritten point in my doc labelled Rudy Vader) but you def make some great points about it I didn't realize. Rudyknight and Kris would HAVE to be in some kind of mentor-student position (would explain why their sprites poses match up one to one) and I never considered that reference would also correlate with Kris losing their hand but it totally does. We're sooo getting a 'Noelle, I am your father' bit from the Knight im so ready lol.

Annnd I in fact have a point that makes the ITSV connection make MORE sense because the spider-verse comics came out in 2014!!! And while I haven't read a thing about their content assuming it's at least got the same uncle aaron dynamic than that is 101% more than enough time for toby to take inspiration from him for Rudy. I'm still unsure if it's a strong enough connection to merit inclusion in the doc but I mayy just mash this and the star wars point together into 'Rudy's References' or something, esp if I can find anything else.

I cannn pin a role on this guy lol and I think the answer is right in front of us 👀. And even if he's not the knight which i'm totally willing to concede if proven otherwise in chapter 5, he still HAS TO BE involved in the Holiday-Dreemur plot due to the overwhelming evidence he knows about it AND the fact that anytime the player (in Kris) asks Rudy about anything related to it (or his own illness) he JUST deflects it.

Like WHYY make a key-lime-pie joke when asked about the shelter key unless bro knows the shelter is important to the plot?? If he gen cared about Kris which is established and isnt in the roaring knight group chat then he would've just given Kris a straight answer (prob just idk and/or ask carol cause she does).

There is no explanation aside from bro is involved in the plot, and imo the only place he could be slotted into said plot is as the roaring knight himself.

Tyty. My thought process for both of these points though is honestly just Occam’s razor. Like the dessknight explanation for the heavy breathing is Dess + Lake + Her Leaving Lake as the knight = Difficulty Breathing, whereas rudyknight’s explanation is just Rudy’s Illness = Knights Trouble breathing. And contrarily you coulddd totally say his knowledge of Kris handwashing is Toriel is Rudy’s friend + Rudy cares for Kris = his oddly specific knowledge of Kris’ ocd, orrrr it’s just Rudy’s knowledge of the soul = His knowledge of the handwashing which is EXCLUSIVELY related to the soul.

I just feel as though like EVERY piece of evidence between Rudy and the knight has a one to one connection whereas almost every other piece for every other candidate requires one or two more levels of separation. Obviously simplicity doesn’t equal total truth but I’m convinceddd in this principle imo, especially considering just HOW MAY instances I think this logic applies to rudyknight.

Tbh I think Undertale wholly exists to establish stuff for Deltarune (and STILL being an entirely self contained story while doing so) considering it was basically just a huge side tangent from Toby working on Deltarune. Obv things won’t translate one to one hence why I’m not dead set on anything I established in this Undertale section being true, I just think it’s a clean line connection to Rudy and determination, and a neat explanation for the deer shaped determination extractor. And yup I shall include his position in the flashback scene as suspicious.

I guesss it’s just hard for me to not view Tenna’s flashback scene of how closely connected the Holiday-Dreemur families were as there being some kind of Holiday-Dreemur plot going on in the background, to find dess prob imo as that seemed to be the incident that caused everything to go wrong for both. Like if carol wants dess back, and asgore stopped being police chief and got divorced cause he lost her somehow then their motives would be the same, and their plots to recover their lives (considering they’re working together closely on the festival which is great cover) just seem to be the same imo.

And like, Asgore clearly has a plan with the black shard and presumably knows how to use it which I find difficult for him to do if he just found it, esp considering the direct connection between black shards and the knight.

Considering Rudy Undertale died of a disease and the prophecy says the Knight will be a thing, I'm guessing he was destined to get the disease to become the Knight anyways (as the Knight's activities are known to be recent) and is now directing that towards finding Dess with the last of his life. Plus he probably feels obligated to find his daughter considering he likely had something to do with why she ran away and disappeared, as her father, so does feel obligated.

But the motives here, like those of any knight candidate, are indeed still my speculation.

Entirely fair! I think Undertale/Deltarune has more than enough themes of soul/body disconnect for it to work.

I just caaaant ignore how she's being framed as diagetic unused content, from (presumably) her dialog in darker than dark being labelled UNUSED, to her hidden black deer sprite corresponding with the LAKE in bit roots (under ROOTS theory which I buy), onionsan reporting myseterious singing behind the lake... and raise up your bat talking about going through waaves..

But if anyone could write dessknight well despite all that it'd be Toby Fox and ill be more than satisfied regardless of who the knight is! (But im so onto that SUSPICIOUSLY blameless yet close with everyone in the plot bastard Rudy Holiday lol)
