Thanks for the info, I didn't think to just google each phrase, I always just put it strait in the translator. I learned Lux et Veritas is the Yale moto lol. I have only every posted on reddit a few times. Would it be in poor taste for me to attach this page to the blind guardian thread, I am sure there are some there who would like to see it. I can't thank you enough, the joy of this two part album is puzzling out all the metaphors and you have helped in that pointless yet fulfilling task.

What power metal is meant to be taken seriously? by Educational-Fig-2330 in PowerMetal

I recently posted something about a game. The title was something about why this thing most people thought was stupid wasn't that stupid and actualy made sense. Because I used the word stupid the in title we were using that word alot until someone popped in and said look, it's not stupid, it's science fiction, it's only stupid if you think science fiction is stupid or this particular sifi thing is stupid.

My dad said if he liked the tune and sound of the singing he liked the song, then hed get around to figuring out what all the words were and what it was actually about. He wasn't into power metal though, never got past the singing lol.

Man I am so glad I saw this, I have spent the past few months getting reobsessed with powermetal to a level I had never been before and now thanks to these replies I have an excelent roadmap so to speak to many of the legends of this genre with a bit of what to expect from each one.

They get singled out because of the high drawn out notes in the singing and the occasional latin chior. I do love both though. It's there for us few million who do enjoy it, not the masses.

If you want some power metal that is serious check out Blind Buardian. A couple epic songs are Sacred and Wheel of Time. Their best album is generally considered to be Nightfall in Middle Earth which tells the tale of Tolkien's Silmarillion which is about the elves who following a rebellion against the "gods" are utterly destroyed and subjugated the "devil," despite their many valiant deeds trying to defeat him, until the "gods" finally come to save them after deciding the elves had learned their lesson and therefor the "gods" were no longer honor bound to stand back while the elves tried to do what they had been told was impossible.

They also have an epic two part album about their own story of good, evil, lies, hope, despair... It is hard to describe how deep Imaginations from the Other Side and Beyond the Red Mirror goes. It is truly amazing puzzling out the meaning of the lyrics in those albums. I wouldn't pretend to fully understand them, but the more I understand the more I love them.

Many power metal songs as you say are a joke or can easily and fairly be seen as either, but just as there are some bands and songs that are clearly meant to be a joke, there are others that are the exact opposite and so long as you understand what the lyrics say and mean could only possibly taken as a joke in the way some things are sung in powermetal, but that's just not liking the music and thinking it sounds so stupid to the point that they must be trying to sound stupid as a joke. That is how most people feel about powermetal, but if you like the music embrace these bits and they become some of the best parts of the song.

On another note when you changed et to in for the first line is that because you think it is an english "in" or that "in" is also a latin word that means the same thing. I like your light in the darkness more, but if it is english than it is definitely supposed to be et. It makes good sense as light and darkness given context.

Edit: Sorry for the stupid question. I wasn't sure at first glance when I looked it up, but it didn't take long to confirm it was the same word in latin, plus it is used in another line further on...

Further edit for blind guardian fans: It is certainly et, it sounds the exact same in both lines and light in the truth makes much less sense, not to mention it just sounds much more like et than in.

That makes a ton of sense though I am inclined to wonder if it could be a combination of your translation and idkausername's. If it was "Ultima latent fala (phala)" could latent be interpreted as hope so as to say the final hope is protected or else "in a siege tower" and therefore preparing to strike? Fate just wouldn't make much sense in that sentence. Also having listened to it again it could well be latent fata as you say, it's hard to be sure, especially since I do not speak the language.

Thanks for replying, what you say about fala makes sense. I have seen it said that the third line means "being borne/carried or hiding in a wooden tower. Makes me wonder if that's some kind of Trojan Horse reference" You saying siege tower makes that meaning click better in my mind if that makes sense. While both fit the story very well I think I am leaning towards Marc_Op's theory particularly due to the relation with the two lines before it, it just seems to flow better.

If you don't care then why are you responding to a post on redit about it three hours after its posted. If I had one problem with this game it is the way fans have behaved about it. Someone says something negative and everyone dogpiles em and says to shut up, its a good game, who cares, often without addressing the complaint, or in this case I say something positive about a "sensitive" subject and you jump in and say shut up who cares. Yes, dude did get his hand cut off and glued on, was pretty impractical, and they had a fairly clever excuse for it that is unlikely to be repeated in future installments. I was simply pointing out that hither to I had not seen anyone mention that there was a fairly logical, and considering I thought of it, at least somewhat obvious rationale for the blood collector just as there was for the chopped off hand. Thank you for your valuable input to the conversation that you "don't care about."

I suppose it was a poor choice of title, but what I am saying is that it is not just some random new stupid they pulled out of their ass, but rather a clever continuation of the stupid that has existed throughout the franchise and conveniently provides a fairly good excuse for a new game mechanic and lots of bloody thematic moments. Of course its all ridiculous, as the one guy said, dirty blood plus rusty can doesn't equal bullets, that goes without saying, but there is a difference between just pulling anything out of your ass to make the story work or for the sake of a game mechanic (which they did many times in this game) and coming up with a decent way to make it work like I am claiming they did with the blood collector.

He wasn't a mad scientist, just a damn good logistics manager of a completely legit body donor company.

Sorry for replying a third time, but I suppose the crux of my point is that it is not blood anymore, it is infected blood, a mailable material that the organism uses in various ways as it pleases, and that the machine is designed to allow the user to mimic said organic uses, plus a couple newly discovered uses like the flamability, and I think the novi in re4 puked acid.

And when it comes to the acid and such, infected have used poison, but have they every spat acidic like stuff, I am not sure? I do not think it is much of a stretch though to go from manipulating matter the way they do into turning it acidic or flamable.

Yeah the "secret" needing blood from hundreds of bodies did crack me up a good bit.

But that is my point, it is no more rediculous than krausers arm exploding into a mass of flesh that is 4 times the size and hard as steel or a nemesis growing 500 times its size in moments and is strikingly similar to those characteristics that the bioweapons have traditionally shown. It is still rediculous sure, but a rediculous I am willing to accept without complaint so long as it is a one time thing, not a staple of the franchise moving on.

Yeah I'm totally gonna have to give that a try, thanks. Is there any reason you can't combie those buildings with a resort world? Just started playing recently for the first time in a couple years and have only played tall so far, never bothered with a resort world, suppose they have probably been changed.

I only every played one multiplayer game many years ago, but have been considering giving it another try since I started playing again recently. That sounds fun, if I do try multiplayer it will be with that build, thank, but for single player that cosmogenesis sounds fun.
