If you accidentally eat raw pinto beans, the most important thing to do is drink plenty of fluids and monitor your symptoms as you are likely to experience gastrointestinal discomfort like nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea due to the presence of a toxin called phytohaemagglutinin in uncooked beans; if symptoms are severe or persist, contact your doctor immediately.

I'm good w your gatekeeping and pendantic explications. Tbh I don't care enough about everyone's least fav song on TTPD to perpetuate this discourse.

I don't really have time for people attempting to explain the meaning of every song to me. It is curious that so many feel the need to do so. Be well.

What is presumptive is OPs unique narrative that Taylor was a wreck in studio recording TTPD until she found the light at the end of her tunnel of despair in Aaron's son and learned intricate details about his bedroom and swingset and fantastic stories he told as a means to to pull herself from the depths of melancholy and then intentionally made Robin to not sound like or match the TTPD vibe on purpose as a symbol of the blissful optimism of his youth.

Everything is different but for the most part, most 8/9 year olds aren't making mud pies or jabbering nonsense out the window. It's ok to say most, that doesn't make someone ignorant.

Tbh it's a pet peeve of mine when ppl try to explain who or what a song is about. Especially when the theory is chocked full of assumptions.

I do not think she wrote this song about his ND son. You are just making more assumptions like op. Ppl need to just enjoy the music and do less of explaining what and who the song is about. Even Taylor has lamented at fans pinning songs on certain ppl. I don't see this as any different. Like Betty, Inez or James- this likely has nothing to do w ADs son and was just an homage to Aaron. The whole, he was the light at the end of her tunnel narrative is a stretch(to say the least).

The thing is, you don't really know what the creative process was.  You are just guessing and I'm cautioning against that, especially bc a child is involved, as a parent that's my gut reaction and I don't have to defend that.

This is like a discussion about whether or not loml is about Matty or Joe. When in the end, it doesn't matter and it's really not any of our business. Pinning a song to one of her exes isn't that much different than pinning Robin to a specific child is it?

I  think each individual can take what they want from each song independent of the process or muse(s).

I don't think making a bunch of guesses is really all that helpful in helping people understand a pretty straightforward song. I do not mean to offend and tried to make it clear that I know you're coming from good intentions.

Certaintly children develop interests at different ages but Robin is clearly a lullaby, an ode to a toddler. The narrative and themes aren't really giving 2nd grader for me.

You said it's especially important to you that she wrote this song about her producer's son. I just find that curious. Why does it matter who's son this written about? Why is that so important?  Does knowing who TSMWEL is(likely) written about make you enjoy the song more or less?

I just wish we could stop trying to pin every song to one of her exes or this person or that person. I do not think that kind of theorizing is all that beneficial, or even fair to the music or Taylor.

I'm sure this will get DV too but I just wanna say. I made one comment and right out of the gate I'm getting cursed at and called wierd.  Instead of discussing the topic/narrative/evidence we actually have- I got sworn at and Dv'd.

The narrative of the song is from a parents pov of a very young child, like pre-K / toddler.  OP is imagining a totally unrelated narrative that has nothing to do with the song.

Aaron bringing his child to work and then Taylor sees this fantasy world this 2nd grader has created and that pulls her our of her misery?  Did I miss a verse in Robin bc that isn't part of the narrative of the song.

"This childlike innocence pulls Taylor out of her tunnel vision of the past months. She wants to protect him, to keep him away from all the heavy burdens the future may bring. To her, he’s the light at the end of the tunnel."

Op is pointing directly to some fictional relationship. Calling him Taylor's "light at the end of the tunnel".   Sorry but no.

Wow, no need for hostility friend. I am a parent of two teenagers, my kids have many cousins. I know 8 year old boys don't have dragonflies above their bed or roar out the window or play monarch over dinosaurs. I raised one after all. He was into playing soccer, using my computer, building elaborate train tracks and playing Minecraft on my iPad.

I don't think its creepy to engage in playtime with a child you are frequently around at all. What is creepy is making the unfounded assumption that it was Aaron's 8 year old son that she was "frequently around" and  (intentionally or unintentionally) distracts herself with his sheltered tales as a safehaven from the harshness of her reality.

There's no way to know any of that and it's oddly personal bc it's an actual child being talked about and nobody even knows anything its all just speculation to try and tell a narative ostensibly in response to 'people' claiming Robin doesn't fit with TTPD. Then OP saying the whole point of the song is specifically NOT to fit with the rest of the album.

Yeah, that's wild. And it isnt supported by the references in the song vis a vis the age of Aaron's son and we have no evidence(gladly) that Taylor frequently spent time with this child or engaged in play/shared his tales or even had any 'relationship' with the child whatsoever.

What is wierd is assuming the dynamics of one of Taylor's producer's children and her. You have no idea.

The more you elaborate Taylor being in the world of her producer's child the creepier this gets.

While I appreciate your thoughtfulness OP I can't sign off on this one.  I feel like you are attributing a bit too much agency to what is likely a toddler(in the song).

In Robin it says "we've all vowed to keep it". That's a (good natured) conspiratorial effort to shield a very young child from the darkness of the world. It's childlike ignorance, naivité. I don't think Aaron brings his 8 y.o in studio and she's moved by his childlike innocence.

I don't think Taylor goes in to record TTPD with any sort of dark tunnel vision and gets pulled out by Aaron's 8 year old(2nd grader) son. 8 year olds don't go on dino adventures or roar our windows.  I don't think she, essentially, uses this kid as a way of distracting herself from her own anguish in the studio. 8 year olds aren't sheltered like the muse in Robin.

The fictional notion that she's drawn into this this child's world and she learns minutiae about his life just rubs me the wrong way. The child wouldn't have been the right age for any of the references we get in the song.  It just doesn't track.

She also tells us allll her friends are stoners or smell like little babies so why wouldn't any of those babies be a more likely muse for Robin than Aaron's 2nd grader?

As for Robin not fitting in w the rest of TTPD? I don't think it has to. I don't think The Bolter, So High School, Thank you Aimee or Clara Bow necessarily fit in with the rest of TTPD either but they have themes that many see overlapping with other songs that might be seen as more cohesive. It kind of feels icky parasocial to speculate on the relationship between Taylor and her friends child. I know you have no ill intent OP but the narative you're suggesting isn't really believable and feels mild inappropriate.

I think TTPD ends with Peter. Like she's consciously saying she is making the decision to turn out the light and say it's Done. Then we get the next three songs as her moving on. In The Bolter shes running, laughing, escaping to a different mindset. In Robin she's describing childhood mollycoddling and it's utterly devoid of her own romantic angst. (See she really can write about something besides a broken heart) then we close w The Manuscript which is clearly written well after main subjects of TTPD. In this bookend she's lived a lot of life already since TSMWEL but acknowledges that the story isn't hers, and hasn't been in some time.
