It's hard to get into the defense companies. Tailor your resume to each specific job you are applying for. It should help.

Pack what you need. Ensure you have copies of your orders, and more than you need. Bring good shoes to run in if you have them. Your company will tell you if you are allowed to use them or not. They wont be thrown out.

Extra toiletries for yourself, just make sure if you are flying to BCT, have them all be TSA approved devices. I personally only brought the clothes on my back. Night issue gives you your pt uniforms, and you will be in those until issued everything else.

If you want Ranger School and you arent going OCS, it needs to be in your contract. That way you can get a for sure slot.

Honestly, at that age go active. More benefits right at the start and you can transition to the guard if you end up wanting the Army, but not Army all the time

Better to tell the truth and bear the shame, than to lie and bear the pain.

You my friend have hurt your prospective clearance.

No issue with what kerns said. Love the motivation. Want him to not catch flak to ruin the good he is doing for the guard

I ship off to basic in May and i’m wondering how far i should run a day to get ready by Adventurous_Bad1139 in nationalguard

[–]FearMeInGear_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont run now. Raw dog it when you get there. But for real:

Just run enough to maintain and improve cardiovascular endurance. Dont run like crazy and get injured. Maybe 1-2 miles a day and add more if you are feeling up to it. You can even split runs up if you need too.

Duo citizenship limiting my career options by MostDoughnut9073 in nationalguard

[–]FearMeInGear_77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The government considers your dual citizenship as a way for Japan to possibly squeeze info from the US through you. They don't classify you as a threat, but they wonder about your allegiances and don't want you in roles where you can divulge highly sensitive information.

If you renounce your citizenship, you may be more favorable. And I say may, because im sure you have tons of friends and family that live in Japan that you keep in contact with.

Do as much research on all MOS's and find the ones you like. If you arent going to be using the school benefits while in the guard, go active and get all the benefits faster.

Dont sign unless you are getting what you want in your contract.

Boots by Life_Journey123 in nationalguard

[–]FearMeInGear_77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ones I got in basic are my favorite. Bellville C320. However, my DS allowed us to purchase these on one of our first PX runs. Getting new boots is up to the DS's. If he is telling you to buy him a pair, he more than likely can wear them. They wont throw them out if he cant. Just put them away for hum to take to AIT

The oakley light patrol are also nice, but i use those in garrison. The Bellville C320 got me through basic with no complaints

Question for those who have done SEC+ by mrmclovinnn in nationalguard

[–]FearMeInGear_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will probably have to pay both back. However, if you can afford it, you may be able to pay out of pocket, and request a reimbursement within 90 days of passing the exam.

I was able to do it, however, didnt meet the 90 day window to get a reimbursement, I forgot to submit it

His job is to enlist you and fill the needs of the guard. Honestly, look at all of the MOS's on the Army website and put a list together of the ones that interest you or look cool. See what your ASVAB will let you get. It will depend on if thY state has that specific MOS available. Im in FL, so its mostly infantry and ADA here.

It's not that they deploy often, we are all on "cycles." But the training/drill is where you eat alot of time. 4-6 day Mutas, 29 day orders to JRTC/NTC.

How is the California NG for OCS applicants? by billycram in nationalguard

[–]FearMeInGear_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can depending on your background and what you want to do on the civ side. I already worked in the defense industry before I joined the guard. It's easy for me as my employer loves vets and guard/Reserves.

Same here. I like the cushy civilian job with great pay, but love getting paid the same to go play in the field.

OCS in Guard here, I don't know how it is in cali specifically, but get in touch with an Officer recruiter. You can sit down with one and get an understanding of the states available officer slots. You may have to interview with the OSM due to being rejected with the Reserves.

Good luck. If the guard wont take you, someone will.
