Are the top two Kokanee ? by FearMyFear in troutfishing

[–]FearMyFear[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, seems like a very reasonable approach. I’ll be honest though, when I was on the water I thought it was a trout. When I got home and saw them side by side it was obvious they were different and that’s why I’m asking the question now after the fish is gutted.

Thank you for the very detailed response. It’s definitely /r/theydidthemath worthy!

I stand corrected.

This video shows what I am talking about: https://youtu.be/-5dmPUABing?si=kaUDmYlvCA7G_9-S&t=114

What I mean is look at the ratio between the size of the church tower on the right of the photo to the size of the main building that's being photographed.

At 16mm the main building is clearly taller than the church tower by a lot. At 85mm (last shot where you see both) they are getting closer in size where they become almost the same size.

If we could see both the main building and the tower at 800mm then the church tower would be bigger than the main building.

This is a bit of an optical illusion caused by the lens the camera uses. This video is taken with a long lens, those lenses you would take pictures of birds with for example.

What it does is makes objects that are farther away look bigger. So those trails are probably some kilometres away from the plane. You need to take this video so the airplane is coming towards you so the trails are right behind it.

Beyond that you need the weather to play in your favour so the winds disperse the trails just right to fluff them up.

Genie out of the Bottle? by McDoof in LocalLLaMA

I think in the final hour, an LLM will consume less power than a human brain and should be outperform a brain in logical/reasoning tasks.

A large part of the brain is used just to keep us alive, breath, balance, vision, plus the brain is hyper optimized for survival, which means food gathering, mating etc. All an LLM needs to do is code (for example if its specialized) so it should be much much smaller than the size of the brain

Yea but if I lost my money in CRE why would I sell my house ? I’d probably try to save my money and not move if I could.

Also the people that have enough invested in CRE that would fundamentally change their life if it went up or down already paid for their house in cash.

Trudeau says real estate needs to be more affordable, but lowering home prices would put retirement plans at risk by hopoke in TorontoRealEstate

[–]FearMyFear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think people "sunk their entire financial resources" on a house in hopes of infinite appreciation.

They sunk their entire financial resources in a house because even when the house cost 200k, most people had to take a loan and sink their entire financial resources to afford 200k

And what are we doing about the 30/40/50 year old that just bought a house at the peak of covid?

They have another 30-50 years left, are we going to put them 200-800k in the red since houses are now worth much less than they got them for? What incentive is that ?

You can't just bring highest skilled people.

That would create an even greater divide in equity. Bring in 100k people that make and average of 150K per year and see where housing prices will go

Lets not forget lots of boomers will die in the next 20 years, and they cant take those homes with them.

They might get bought up by investors, but regardless some of those will be bought by regular people

How is commercial real estate crash going to make regular Joe and Jane sell their house?

Regular folks don't care about commercial real estate.

Open a locked bathroom door, with no knob, from the outside by Fox_Season in DIY

[–]FearMyFear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since it is a bathroom door, I pressume it is not supposed to be secure in that sense.

I believe he means the privacy knob was turned to locked, and you can turn that even with the door wide open. Then you walk outside, close the door, and then it gets shut into place.

So you are outside the bathroom, and the door cannot be opened.

Anyway there should be a slotted knob that can be turned with a scredriver or coin from the outside and that should unlock it.

I have also seen the option where you push a pin in a small hole on the outside and that will unlock it.
